Takeria StrotherMy name is Takeria and although I am pretty short, I have a vociferous singing voice, but when talking, many say I sound like a mouse. As a 16 year old girl who has had to re-adjust to several living situations, singing has been the one constant that keeps me grounded. It has helped me through difficult times when I didn’t have anyone to turn to and it is the one thing that makes my life go around. I love the way music can take your true feelings and put it in to song. From there I can let my emotions flow freely. Years passed and I was 12 years old. That’s when I got the nerve to start singing again. Once I started singing I felt that spark again. That little spark I got in my stomach when I sing. It felt amazing! Ive been practicing everyday on my singing and I’ve been improving every time. Another reason why I want to do this is because my family. They mean the world to me! We’ve been through tons of horrible difficultys. We’ve moved to many house almost every month because we couldn’t afford to pay the rent for the house. Sometimes we didn’t have food to eat. We went for days without food sometimes and I just don’t ever want to go through that ever again. Seeing my family, my little sisters in pain. It breaks my heart.Singing has been my way of getting rid of the pain I build up inside. Singing and I always had a connection since I was younger. I don’t want to give that connection up. Joe Angel GutierrezIn an effort to achieve a life long goal I am sincere in my wish to be a well known singer. ILife has definitely had its set backs for major come backs in my case. Being raised by my grandparents and experiencing my grandmother’s alcoholism as well as the fear of being independent I also experienced addiction and was even incarcerated at times. Since October 2012 I have been an amazing person in society and with my family. In March 2014 my grandmother passed away and left my grandpa and me behind. He’s 70 years old works full time and take a care of our little apartment with one bedroom and two dogs that he calls his kids. So, obviously with the memories of being choir president in middle and high school as well as taking a huge liking to The Voice I am hopeful that you will make my talent of singing known to world. Finally, thank you for the opportunity you provide for people. It changes and produces amazing lives. I want to make my grandfather proud and be able to take care of him. I have always loved to sing, my parents used to say that i could sing before i could talk, if that’s even possible. I have been wanting to pursue my singing career for quite some time now and i finally have the opportunity to do just that. I want to show the world what i can do. All my friends would wonder why i could never pursue a singing career. Every time they would ask me that question i would tell them that i wouldn’t have the time or the focus. But, that isn’t the truth. The truth is that i don’t want to disappoint my family if i don’t make it or if i choke. I understand now that they have no choice in the matter , that they shouldn’t even be apart of the decision, because it’s my life not theirs and if they have a problem with it they can get over it. No matter how bad my day gets i can go home and listen to my music and sing my heart out. Every day no matter how bad my life gets i sing. Music is my outlet , my other voice. I have been through many hardships. My parents divorced, i have lost my home and many other personal things that have put my life off track. I started to rap and act at age 3 and sing at age 5 ever since then I was hooked, many people say my lyrics sound better than what they hear on the radio. Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of support, my family thought what I wanted to do was not reasonable, that’s why I had to teach myself how to Sing, and reteach after I went through puberty, I also had to teach myself how to rap. I used to have really bad depression and anxiety issues but GOD helped me through. And I must say, with out him I am nothing, and I wouldn’t be here. I know I have the talent, but the test is, do I have the perseverance to keep going even with the fails and keep hope? I do, even if I have to go trough the hell of not sleeping because of stress.
