It seems like Michigan gets overlooked a lot for talent sometimes. In all cities and not just Detroit. Please. Come to Michigan. I work a Nine to five trying to get to my dreams. I try to live in the reality and fantasy. Give us a chance. Give me a chance. Many, most definitely including myself, are waiting for this opportunity.

  3. Destinee Jennae

Being able to share my voice and love of music with others will be a dream come true for me! It will be an honor to be mentored by stars who have been down the same road I will be taking to achieve my goals. My name is Destinee J. I am a 16 year old vocalist. I started out singing for fun in front of family when one day someone asked me to sing at an event. My nerves were broken just before the last few lines of the song and next thing I knew, I was being approached by people to sing for them. I have performed for a number of events this year in spring and summer 2013 and landed a lead role in my high school’s “Best of Broadway” show. I will be portraying ‘Joanne’ in “Rent”. Please consider me for this new opportunity! I will not only appreciate it, honor the opportunity and cherish the experience but I will work hard and bring passionate vocals to my performances! Thank you for your consideration! Please email me. Please! 🙂

Hello, i’m 22 years of age. I’ve been singing all my life. Its not the chance at fame or the money that excites me about the show. It’s being able to share my gift with the world. I was told what good is a gift if no one has ever heard or seen it. So I just want to share my gift, my voice, with the world. I’m crazy-sexy-cool, full of fun, inspired thru most jazz, r&b, soul, and gospel music. uhhhh i have no idea what else to say except stop by Dallas, Texas !!!!

  11. Delainey Armentrout

Greetings, my name is Delainey Armentrout. I am a Caucasian sixteen year old female from Ohio. I am 5’5 and 140 pounds (but am exercising quite a lot to get to a lighter weight). I have thick and very long brunette hair. I have brown eyes and a dimple on my left cheek.

Let me tell you about my passion and love and inspiration for singing, acting, and dancing. I have been singing ever since I can remember. My family members will often tell me stories of how I’d sing all the time when I was little, I do recall doing so after a certain age. I always loved and still do love Disney movies with a great passion. I have been in choir in fifth grade, eighth grade, my Freshman year of high school, my and Sophomore year of high school. Unfortunately, I could not attend choir classes this year because of my needs to focus on my grades and focus on my singing, acting, and dancing. I took up private singing lessons for a year during my Freshman year of high school at a local music store. I have been in many plays including, “Stranded”, “Inherit the Wind”, “The Jungle Book”, “Rumpelstiltskin”, “Hansel and Gretel”, “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe”, “The Princess and the Pea”, and “The Hound of the Baskervilles”. I have, unfortunately, only been in one musical, that musical being “The Sound of Music”, but my school is having a Winter musical and I most definitely plan on auditioning for it, though I have no idea what the musical is, yet. There are many musicals and play auditions being held in my local area and I plan to take advantage of as many as I physically can. I also plan to take up private singing lessons, again. I had been told by both my choir teacher and my private singing instructor that I have a large range. In choir class, my Freshman year, I was a Soprano two the first semester, and then upgraded to Soprano one the second semester. My freshman year, I was a Soprano one the first semester, and then moved to Alto one my second semester. I am told I sort of have a jazzier voice when I sing in my alto range, but it can be easily controlled. I have no problem with changing ranges within a snap. I am told my talent shows in Show-tunes and jazz type songs the best. I had taken ballet, tap, and other dancing classes for many years. I have many inspirations celebrities wise, my top being Jennifer Lawrence, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Darren Criss, Chris Colfer (whom I met on July 29th, 2012), Lea Michele, Thomas Grant Gustin, Idina Menzel, Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron, Joey Richter, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Judy Garland, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Jared Padalecki, Joesph Gordon-Levitt, Steve Buscemi, Aaron Tveit, Dylan O’brien, Ryan Gosling, and many more. I know I have not had much experience and this all may not sound very impressive and that their are many people who are wanting be on this show, I really wish you would consider me. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this.

  12. Meg

    Hello,
I would love to be considered for a show like this. I’m 32 years old and have loved singing from a very young age. I was a vocal performance major in college with aspirations of being an opera singer, but some stabs in my self confidence had me choosing another path. I didn’t sing a note by myself for a good 8 years. I didn’t think I was good enough.

Giving up on a passion is the worst darkness I have ever felt. I started singing again for fun and I had forgotten how much absolute joy it brings into my life. I’ll never stop again.

I’m a USAF spouse and a mother of two. Right now I’m a stay at home mom with a small part time job. But if I had the chance to do this thing that I love so much to help contribute to my families struggles, it would be amazing. To show my kids that it’s never too late to go after something you want would be even better.

I live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida
I very much hope you will consider visiting.
    Thank you for your time!

  13. Tiya

I have always enjoyed music, and have sang with choirs (as a child and in college). I know I am not the most talented singer, but I can harmonize (I think that I sing similar to the late Aaliyah, but more of an alto than she was). If I were to make it as a musician, I see myself as a part of a girl group. We need more girl groups! I am 27, about to turn 28, so I may be a bit “too old” for a girl group. But I am petite and look about 10 years younger and have an old-soul yet a youthful spirit. I can be shy at times, but I have always felt that I was meant to do something important and positive that makes a large, positive impact on the world. Perhaps this could be it. 🙂

I am who people would least expect to be a star–I have a biology degree and am an substitute teacher for the time being. But I think that I would surprise people and relate to a large group of young women who don’t have large representation in the media. I love movies and would love to review films and possibly act one day.

An opportunity like this would definitely help my family as we are undergoing hard times at the moment. God willing, this will help someone who needs it and who has the gift that is being sought 🙂

    I am in Charlotte, NC.

    Thanks for reading my message!

  28. Renee P Howard

Hi my name is Renee, I’m 32 years old. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. It doesn’t matter the genre: R&B, country, blues, alternative or gospel. . If you can name it, I can sing it. I started singing to my deaf mother, the “Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston, at the age of five. Whitney was my epicenter of sound and I immolated her high-soprano without missing a beat. I learned to appreciate almost any sound and would hum a tune to anything. As I grew, I found that I could imitate Whitney’s pitch and that I could stay on key walking and running. She was a true singer and my inspiration during a trying childhood. (I cried like a baby when she passed away). I also loved “Annie,” the original musical and watched it every Christmas. I listened to Annie (Aileen Quinn and Carol Burnett) sing and I would encourage myself to sound just like her during the scenes. I knew if I could sing like her I had “the right voice” because she was on television. Like many of my peers, I signed up with Columbia House music and ordered tapes, amongst Jodeci and Luther Vandross was Annie’s soundtrack. As a pre-teen, I had a boom box and all the songs I ever wanted.
I was permanently placed in foster care at the age of 10. At that time I lived with an old couple that loved music from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. I learned about great artists such as, Nat King and Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick and Patti Labelle. I learned about Motown bands and groups such as: The Supremes, The Five Tops and The Miracles. I watched classic films. While my friends did the “rump shaker” off of a BET video, I learned about: poodle skirts and the “jitter-bug “. “The Lady sings the Blues” and the “The Jackson Five”, were two of my favorite movies. They taught me determination. I was exposed to the fascinating presence of Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Sidney Poitier. These days, I am a wife and a stay at home mom that loves to play tennis. I’ve been through so much but music has always kept me. Knowing, understanding and replicating great music is my passion. In saying that, please afford me the opportunity to perform and make you a believer in my abilities.

  34. Lisa Bennett

    Hello,
I do not fit the mold of the other potential contestants, it seems. I began singing when very young. I was in choir, glee club, musical theater, played guitar and sang in cafes, then sang in nightclubs with a pianist. . .30 years ago! I am currently a psychotherapist and teacher working with teens and adults suffering from trauma. I have spent many years “giving back” and loving it. Unfortunately, along the way, I left my music and part of myself behind. A couple of years ago I sang with a band for one of my kids’ school’s talent shows to raise money. A wonderful pianist and I found each other and have been playing with music every few weeks since. I have realized how much I miss this part of my life. I would be pleased and honored to be coached and guided by professionals in the field. I live in Kensington, California, near Berkeley. I hope you will consider me as a possible part of your show.
    Thank-you.

  35. Laura Hollingsworth

Queen Latifah…WHAAAT!? I’m absolutely the “Star Next Door”, and I’d love the opportunity to show you. I’m currently a happily married, 28 year old mother of two crazy/fabulous little boys, and also work full time as a Catering Director for a private club in Seattle. Life is crazy and exhausting, but singing my heart out in the car, at karaoke, or any other venue that allows, keeps me sane. As a child I was always active in music and theatre. I sang in numerous school and private choirs, sang at trade/bridal shows, sang the national anthem at college basketball games, etc. Growing up, I got off course and lost sight of the important things in life. I used drugs, dropped out of school and just created a life for myself that had no meaning…or music. At the age of 20, I met a great guy and became pregnant with my first child. Life has taken a great course, but music is defintely still the missing element. Please, please, please come knock on my door!? I’ll work my booty off….promise!

  40. Anthony Cronen

My husband’s name is Tony. We are 30 years old and live in the Twin Cities. I fell in love with his voice before we ever met! <3

Last year, he spent eight months in the hospital and was in a coma and on life support for much of it. His chance of survival was slim. It was a dark time for me and our three year old. 🙁

Miraculously, he survived! He left the hospital one year ago. He has relearned how to walk, how to eat, how to write, how to talk…. and how to sing. :,) (Oh yeah, and he's lost 240 pounds!)

We feel so blessed and now just want to share his vocal gift with the world!

Please check out our CaringBridge site to learn more about our story and listen to him on YouTube – it's not the best recording, but you can still get the idea. He's an amazing man with an amazing voice and a touching story.

http://youtu.be/YzdKjBcVseY – You can just listen to 2:15 – 3:45 if you are pressed for time – that's a picture of us at the end. 🙂

  43. Shaunice Shreeves

“The Star Next Door” is the perfect title, definition, and/or description for what/ who I am! This name alone means a lot to me, because that’s what I have always ‘kinda’ felt like, “just that girl next door-ish”. Yes, I may be her, and I may only be “98 pounds soak and wet”, BUT I possess a shooting star-ish, bigger than the biggest singing voice! (At least, I’ve been told so, along with “you should do something with that [voice]”) I adore singing (I think I even do it in my sleep?) LOL! Nonetheless, I have been singing for as long as I have known myself, and it is absolutely one of my joys!! Music is a part of me, I have grown up watching my extremely musically inclined, MULTI-talented father try to get his music career to sky rocket; further strengthening my love/ adoration for music and singing. I have sung in school choirs, gospel choirs, weddings, and awards ceremonies, local bands, showers, and cars, you name it!! Needless to say, they say “Good things come in small packages!”……

    😉

  44. Sarah toussaint

This show sounds amazing and I would love to be in it. Not only because I want the world to hear my voice but because I want to make my dreams come true in a way that is not too over the top. My name is Sarah and my first passion is singing. I would not trade that talent I have for anything else in this world and I wild love an opportunity to show the world what my voice can do.

    Thank you for reading.

  45. Kevie Harris

I’m 15 and I am from Chicago. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, I can play the piano and I really want to learn to play the guitar. I used to sing in my church choir, I always sing at home and I used to sing at my piano lessons with my teacher, I just love singing. Whenever you’re with me you will at least hear me sing once, I really would love to sing for the rest of my life. Singing is apart of me…Music is apart of me. The Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato inspired me to start singing, since 2005 and I really want to start a career as a singer. Please let me audition for this show! Thank you!

  54. Kristin Clark

Hi my name is Kristin Clark and I am from Huntington Station, NY. I am 19 and am currently going to school for performance in voice. I have been singing all of my life and I’ve always known that it’s all I want to do for the rest of my life. I have won a singing competitions and I have been in several musicals with big roles. I have taken voice lessons since I was in 6th grade and am very serious about my career as a performer. I write music and I am currently teaching myself guitar. My family has always been my support system, especially my mom. My father passed away when I was eight but I do believe in God and heaven and I know he is watching after me from above. Since I do believe in God I do also believe that it was a sign that my father bought me a violin for Christmas just before he passed away. It is what started my life of music and I do believe that the reason I am on this earth is to touch people and move people through music. Nothing gives me greater joy then performing and taking people on a journey just by singing. Please consider me to be on this show. It would be a dream come true. Thank you for your time.

  55. AJ Steinberg

My name is AJ and I am 16 years old. I am from Raleigh/Durham North Carolina and I love to sing. I love my family and they are very supportive of my happiness in any way that I define it. I have always been the girl who would raise her hand in class and knew nobody listened or cared about what I had to say. But when I sing, I feel as if the whole world can hear me and I lose myself into my hairbrush microphone. Singing gives me the courage and the confidence in myself that I know is there, even in my shyest moments. and I know nothing could take that way from me when I’m performing and doing what I love. I am learning guitar, I play the clarinet and I can dance as well. I would say the genre I sing best would be country and British folk music. I just want to say that I really hope that this show can have the opportunity of just giving me or other talented people in my area the chance to go out and try by coming out to Raleigh/Durham NC. I hope I said something right in this message!
Thank you just for the opportunity to comment and I hope you can give me a chance!
    -AJ

  59. Chris Shannon

Hello, my name is Chris Shannon. I’m 19 years old. I live in Moore, oklahoma.

I wake up everyday dreaming of the day I perform vocally for many people. I currently just ended my career of being an Allstar cheerleader. Which happens to be one of the most athletic things I’ve done in my life and is still not considered a sport. After having a very successful life with cheer I wish to peruse my dream of singing. I was always the shy voice in choir. But was so social. No I’ve found my voice and I would love the chance to show the world to just stay motivated in your dreams. If there is something you have always dreamt of doing, clear your mind, stay positive, and see yourself in that dream everyday.

  65. Sandy

I am hoping you will consider my 21 yr old son, James. He has received many awards for his incredible voice and acting abilities. He was selected out of 40,000 hopefuls and flown to Hollywood for a chance to be on a popular show that features incredible singers. He was eventually cut, however, the fact that he made it all the way to Hollywood, hopefully will give you an idea of how powerful and dynamic his singing abilities are. He is a wonderfully humble individual with a heart of gold. He has a commendable work ethic and pays for his own college classes. He is a singer who will make you catch your breathe and give you goose bumps. He will pull you into the story that he sings each and every time. He has NO IDEA that i am submitting this letter of request to you and if you give him a chance, you will be glad you did. He just needs some valuable coaching and an opportunity to shine.

  70. De Shawn Vance-Jamison

I am De Shawn Vance-Jamison I live in Grand Rapids,Michigan.A place where opportunity is limited to those who fit the profile. Which I don’t understand, is it who or what? But besides that, I have raw untaught talent. With a passion to make my dreams come true. Unfortunately, due to not being able to travel, because I barely maintain my bills now, I’m stuck here un-discovered. I would love the opportunity to get myself out of here, and make a change in my life. I’m ready to be that positive mentor for young black adults, stuck in gang violence and more. To let them know we don’t have to be apart of society to be society. And our life circumstancesdoesnt have to define us or keep us down.

  71. Elyse Sullivan

Hello, my name is Elyse Sullivan. I’m 14 years old, almost 15, and just graduated 8th grade. this past year I was singing in the talent show at my school. About 50 people auditioned to sing and only 10 made it. I absolutelly love to sing. Everyday, no matter where I am, you can find me singing or humming a tune. also I preformed at a large pool party in front of 100 people for the 4th of July. Singing isnt the only thing I love to do; I love to act. Though I’m not the best dancer, I still love preforming. Ever since secound grade I’ve kind of been aong loner as well as been bullied. Barely anyone belives i can make t in this buissness, But I want and Have to prove them wrong. Ilove to sing songs that are sort of slove but a little fast. My favorite song is by Lucy Hale, “Extra Ordinary,” because that song basically describes me. I’ve always wanted to be acknowledged. At times I’ve been afraid of what people will think of me, but not any more. So I’m asking, Please give me my chance to shine. This is all I’ve ever wanted. Please.

    Sincerely
    Elyse Sullivan

  72. Katrina Doss

    Hello,

I am Katrina Doss, and I am “The Star Next Door”. I am 24 years old and I have been singing since I was about 5 years old, and it is truly apart of my being. I believe my talent of singing is an awesome gift. When I was younger, my mother would be so stressed, she worried herself sick, and I would sit by her side and sing to her, and tell her she is going to be all better. Now as an adult , my mom lives by the fact that my singing helped her fight her sickness and become stronger.

I know everyone has a story, and I’m not looking for any sympathy, but I truly believe my story and my upbringing is a true testament of my ability to express my emotions through singing.

Born in the late 80’s, raise in the 90’s I had the unfortunate experience to see my father caught up in the drug era, he was addicted to drugs, and my mom was left to raise her 4 children on her own. She did her best with us, and also did everything she could to get my father clean. The things we experienced and the things i can remember, are much similar to a lifetime movie. During those times, my mother kept us in church, and tried her hardest to make us feel as if we had somewhat of a decent childhood. It was far from that, my father was a drug addict, for the most part we didn’t have hot water, and electricity, and somehow we still made it out okay.

My father has been clean for the past 15 years, he and my mother are still married and going strong, and all 4 of my mothers children have graduated college and are making something of ourselves, so that our children can have better that we did.

It was during those times of struggle as a child, and seeing my mothers heartbreak because she didn’t know how she was going to take care of us at times, it was during those times, that i knew i had to do something. I knew I didn’t have money to give, or pay a bill, i was just a kid, but i knew that I could sing. I could sing to my mom and brothers and sisters, because it was a free gift, and it brought so much joy. That’s why I say my voice had the power to heal. It healed my moms stress and worry even if just for a moment, it made my brothers and sister smile, and laugh like kids should be able to, and it made me feel as if I was doing my part in my family’s time of struggle.

This is my story, and this is why I believe I am truly, “The Star Next Door’

    Thank You!
