I started performing when I was a toddler for family and friends and went on to sign with a children’s recording company in New York at the age of 12. I sang in several parades and performed the national anthem for a minor league baseball team. I created a CD single in 2003 which I sold independently for a while. Although singing has always been my number one passion, I have always put it on the back burner. I was a Special Education teacher for 11 years before having our first child and retiring to stay at home with her. DeziraeThe San Francisco Bay Area is full of hidden talents and people who are just waiting for their big break! I myself live in San Leandro which is near the Oakland area. There are a lot of singers here (including myself) with a unique voices and a knack for music. Stephanie van DijkHELLO THERE!! My name is Stephanie van Dijk and I am 15 years old. I have been singing for as long as I remember and, since apparently everybody is doing this, I’ll tell you my story too! Ever since I was a toddler, my parents called me ‘Tigger” since I was apparently so hyper and upbeat all the time! That is, until the summer before I went in to fourth grade. That summer was my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary and we had a big party Me and all of my cousins, nieces, nephews, and siblings all went splashing around in a lake that was there, and none of us thought anything of it. 6 months later, I started breaking bones left and right, and I would have a migraine at least three times a week. I was also very fatigued and nobody could find out why! In the seventh grade, my headaches started getting bad. And I mean REALLY bad. At about 3 points during just my seventh grade year, they got to be migraine level intensity constantly for 2-3 weeks at a time. Eighth and ninth grade weren’t any better. My ninth grade year I missed a full quarter of school because of my headaches. (somehow though, I still made all A’s and B’s. Don’t ask me how, because I have no clue.) Mind you, I still had no idea why this was happening to me until April of 2013. The whole time before that, I had about 6 doctors and all they could come up with was that I had Chronic Migraines. But late 2012 I found a new doctor and many blood tests later, in April of 2013 we finally found out that I had Lyme Disease. Now, this made a lot of sense. It explained the joint problems, the vision problems, and the migraines! Mid- April we had started antibiotics and IV treatments and (since it’s only late May) we haven’t seen much improvement yet. But, around 3 and a half years ago I started going to voice lessons. I had been singing regularly for as long as I can remember, but when I started lessons, it really got my attention. Music has really helped me get through all of this craziness, and I would love to be part of the opportunities that come along with this show. I’m on my way back to being ‘Tigger’ but in the meantime, singing is my life and I would love this show to be a part of my life. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING THIS EXTREMELY LONG STORY. I would sing anything that i could.I started by singing in the churh choir. My mother and grandmother have always supported me in my singing. I also sang with my best friend. Singing in talent shows at school and singing in the school choir. I stopped singing for a long period of time during college but I still had a passion to sing. I remember music videos and listening to music in my room and getting chills from music and wanting to do the same thing and wanting to make other people feel the same way that I did. I had my son and took care of him. Always singing to him in the car along to the radio and when putting him to bed which gave him a love of music. 7 years ago my son and I were in a very bad car accident and we were hurt badly. I had to be away from my son because my injuries were so bad and he also had a lot of healing to do. And by the grace of god we did and my family supporting us along the way. Almost 3 years ago he was diagnosed with leukemia and he has made it through and he is a happy, loving and kind child. Seeing this has made me what to follow my dream of singing and showing him to. Always follow your dreams. This is the biggest dream that I have ever had. Everywhere I’m always singing or humming. Even at work I’m at my desk singing to myself. I am a strong single mother of an awesome and amazing 2 year old boy named Khaliq who is my HEART. I have been singing ever since I could speak and writing songs since I was about 5. Ever since I was 7 years old I knew that I wanted to be on stage singing in front of thousands. I LOVE to sing. I would get in front of the mirror with a brush and I would imagine that I was on stage performing. However, I could never actually pursue this dream of mine because I didn’t have the proper support system growing up nor the money to make it happen. Because I grew up poverty stricken my dream of singing was just that, a dream.I think that I would be a perfect candidate for this show because I truly have a REAL story that people can relate to. I have overcome so many struggles and I am still working towards my destiny. By the time that I was 6 I had already experienced the hardships of life. We had it very rough as my mother did the best that she could to provide for us. I was a victim/witness of almost every abuse including physical/sexual. I never knew much of my family until I became a teen as my father was non-existent for most of my life. It was very difficult for me to deal with the stigma and trauma that I had endured at such a tender age, so I turned to singing to cleanse my heart and soul. The first time I sang out loud I had chills up/down my spine because I was a natural and that’s when I knew that it was a special gift from God. It was the one place that I could go and truly be free from pain, worry, and anguish because it made me happy. Since I didn’t have many friends to confide in, I began to keep a Dairy and that is how I began writing songs just to cope with the events that were happening with in my life as I dealt with these things in silence. So writing songs & singing them was an outlet for me. I would perform at birthday parties, cook outs, and school talent shows when I was growing up. When I became an adult I went to school for Audio Production to learn the ropes of recording and the music industry but I was unable to finish due to finances. I got pregnant with Khaliq and went through one of the worst storms of my life. My mother had a stroke which left her disabled, I was being physically abused by my sons father, my own father had died from a stroke, and I battled severe depression while being a pregnant full time student all the while. I had to get an emergency C-Section after 2 days of painful labor just save his life because he went into distress and he wasn’t breathing when they pulled him out. So as you can see, I have been through the trenches but I never stop fighting nor did I ever give up because I am a survivor. I believe that I can be the voice for people who have dealt with similar struggles and my songs will inspire them to have hope. If I could go through the things that I went through and still come out with stronger faith and a humble mind then anyone can overcome their own struggles if they just believe. Tiarah PhillipsHello, My name is Tiarah Im 20 years old, my passion has been singing for the longest. I absolutely love what i hear about this show because honestly i have trouble trying to have someone take me all over god’s creation for an audition, when you guys can come to us. My mother is a single parent who has to work very hard to provide for me and my siblings, so its very challenging to get her to take me to these auditions. Im really not as close with my family as others are so i feel weird asking them for help. I really want to sing and show everyone my talent, most people always take me for a joke when i tell them this, that kind of discourages me in a way that it shouldn’t.. I recently connected with my aunt Mary Ann who just passed of Cancer. When i went to visit her she told me about the voice lessons she had to cancel because of her condition which really broke my heart, then she says to me you have to keep singing and your a very beautiful girl so show your talent. A couple days later she passed and now its like i can’t waste my time being scared of people’s opinions and do what my heart tells me and have a voice.. If i can be on this show i want to prove to myself and everyone else who doubted me that im capable of all things & accomplishing my dreams. Amber CarterHi my name is Amber Carter and I am a 19 year old college student. I have been performing since I was 6 years old. I won the USA world showcase when I was in the eighth grade and was lucky enough to perform at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada! I sing in church and most recently I won the dream ticket at the American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I have overcame many struggles to make me the person I am today. I graduated high school with high honors and won a minority award for my district. I just completed my first year of college and I have done all of this being a single teen mother! I have worked hard to not be another statistic and with the help of a very supportive family I am dedicated and determined to be successful!The unique quality about me is that I am a biracial (black & white) young woman and I sing country music. I have had alot of criticism throughout my singing career saying that I look more like an R&B singer. On second hand I have been praised by judges for my unique sound of country soul and natural stage presence. It is my dream to make it in the music industry. Although I can sing just about every genre of music, my heart belongs to country music. I grew up with my mother and grandmother listening to Patsy Cline and Tammy Wynette. I’m 21 years old and I’m currently a senior at Clark Atlanta University. I’ll be graduating this year with a Bachelors Degree in Speech Communications. My dream since I could remember is to become a professional singer. I’ve gone to multiple auditions throughout my life but was never able to devote my time into music because I was very involved with school. I constantly had to work hard to earn the rewards of scholarships and grants to attend the school of my choice. I was so determined that I finished high school within 3 years. During my years here at Clark Atlanta, I’ve won a total of 16 talent shows on our campus, at Spelman, and at Morehouse. Charlotte MorganMy name is Charlotte Morgan and I’m eighteen years old. I’m living in Traverse City, Michigan now before going to the New York Film Academy for acting. Acting is something I’ve always been passionate for although I’ve done my share of swapping back and forth between acting, modeling, singing, directing, and editing. I opened what I called my small “film company” when I was thirteen and did many small productions. I was a figure skater for five or six years where I performed in the show Annie and Greece on ice as well as competed in many competitions. Figure skating taught me how to perform in front of a crowd and not to be stage fright or anything. It gave me confidence. I modeled for two or three years and was able to meet a bunch of really cool people like being able to work with Bruce Dale of National Geographic. I quit film making and acting when I started traveling the country to play a competitive card game called Magic: The Gathering. Thanks to Magic I was exposed to another world and able to gain maturity and learn a lot as it’s one of most complicated (if not most) games in the world.
