I have had a passion for acting since junior high, then high school drama, then college theater, a reality tv show, being an extras and doing small independent films. I chose to do college first as I was advised, but since I have now graduated with my masters I would like to at least try to pursue my acting dreams. I have my master’s in social work and my goal is to build an expressive arts home for foster children/youth. Now that school is done, I have plenty of time as I transition into the working life, but what better time to at least give my dream a shot than now. Sonja VI’ve been watching switched at birth since the first episode, with my mom. My parents are deaf and I’m a CODA. There are so many things my mom and I can both relate to when watching switched at birth. I love that abc family did a show to incorporate sign language, because I think its opened so many new doors for deaf culture, especially for people who knew nothing about it. I’ve lived the deaf culture my whole life, being that my mom is deaf and my dad as well. I think abc family did an awesome job with the cast and teaching them sign language, including captions, because a LOT of shows don’t. Sign language is my first language, english is my Second. Ive been signing since I was 3 months, and I think it would be awesome to be apart of something that I’ve lived my entire life. Ive always wanted to teach people about deaf culture and ASL. There are so many people that think deaf people CANT do this and they CANT do that, but they’re wrong, and this show definitely shows people that they are JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE, they just can’t hear. When switched at birth first came out, it was awesome to finally watch a show i can relate to, and it just made me want to be apart of the show because I feel like i can relate to the deaf culture so much, and because I’m so passionate about sign language. I have been acting for as long as I can remember, and I have had some incredible training.
