I deal with questions of “normal” every day–my daughter, who I adopted from Russia–has fetal alcohol syndrome, and we are challenged every day to find ways to manage her behaviors, her medical issues, her learning disabilities, and her appearance (she is nearly 8 years old, but is the size of your average 4 year old) to help her fit in with her peers. Her brain is wired differently and because of that her entire perspective is skewed with regard to normalcy, but at the same time is also unique and original, which has given me some challenging moments in our seven years as a family. I am convinced I”m as normal as they come. I’ve had many many trying times dealt to me in my lifetime that most people would have lost there minds completely. Some days I really want to but would that be normal. Absolutally not! Being a single parent to 3 kids having full responsibility to keep a roof over there heads food on the table working a full time job coming home to parental duties making dinner, doing homework ,cleaning,and getting my kids ready for school the next day. It takes a normal person to be able to deal and cope with day to day struggles. When the closest people to you are forced into life long medical situtions.That Dr’s have know answers solutions or preventive knowledge to treat chronically ill patients. Leaving loved ones to just watch while there loved ones are in such terrible agony and pain they want to die.It’s just not and option.to be abnormal. Don’t get me wrong when I don’t have the money for Rent my utilities or 5 bucks to take my little one for and ice cream. It tears my heart out. So I go in my room by myself put a towel over my mouth so my kids dont hear me and I cry and scream and get it all out. . Does that warrant being labeled and abnormal person.Heck KNOW Laughter its a great way to stay normal. A positive attitude never dwell on the bad when there are so many things to live for. Living the Beaver Cleaver life thats abnormal. it’s the year 2013 Peg and Al Bundy thats a normal life. Barb Fowler RobertsonPICK me! I’m totally un-normal and probably the most proud of it. I rebel against normal-ism. Hell, I took a vow of celibacy in 2003 and have remained single since then. There is either something really, really wrong with me or I’m completely normal. I don’t know. I swore off relationships cause it just seemed my time to live my purpose and passion without any distractions in my life…and men, well, they can be a distraction. So I took care of that. Although, I must say that I’m getting to the point where I think my vow is pretty complete. I didn’t give myself a date or anything but I figure it’s time. People keep asking me if I’m gay cause I’m not married or having a relationship. I answer them, “why no. I’m not gay. Why do women have to have a man in order to be happy and content?” After I finish ranting they pretty much know I’m abnormal. So see….I would be perfect for the show. My mama says we are normal average folks but I can’t help but think there are some pretty big pink elephants swept under rugs and in closets waiting to be discovered. Why she says the safest place to be is in your garden, because the world is run amuck with serial killers and child molesters and things like that just don’t happen in your garden. (Don’t go to mexico. We’ll find you in a tator sack. Don’t go to Walmart after eight. Don’t walk the dog down the street by yourself. Don’t travel alone….don’t …don’t…don’t.) By the time I finish listening to her I want to strangle myself with a cucumber vine and prove to her that bad things do happen in the garden. My philosophy is to live life the fullest and always challenge myself. I never want to let negativity get me down. Regardless of the circumstances around me in my life…I keep going. paigeI am 20 years old. I have a wonderful 18 month old daughter. I am a stay at home mom, but want to go to school to become an ultrasound technician, and my husband is a tattoo artist. We pretty much live paycheck to paycheck, in a relatively small apartment. We got married in a court house with none of our family or friends present because we could afford to have a wedding. If we were to win I would want to use the money to pay off our bills, get a bigger place so our daughter can have more room, and maybe have a small wedding ceremony for our family.
