My grandpa sings in Branson, MO where he has his very own show, and my father sings as well. My mother and I went to our local Country Expo, in Indianapolis, IN and they had a karaoke booth set up. My mother told me if I would get up and sing two songs, she would buy me a pink cowgirl hat. So, being 9 and wanting my very own cowgirl hat, I decided why not?! When I sang two Billy Gillman songs I got a huge reaction out of people walking by. One lady even offered to buy the tape they recorded of me singing off of my mother! Of course she did not do so. But that is when it all began and my love for singing has grown and grown through out the years. I have won tons of contests, traveled to Nashville, TN where I got to sing in Tootsies Bar, and with some other local bands. It’s hard to get noticed because there is so much talent out there, and I support every singer out there. The only thing I ask for is just a shot to prove myself. I recently lost my job, and things are getting tight at home, so this would be an amazing opportunity for me and my family. I was invited back to record a jingle for rapper Bone Crusha’s new drink that is in the making. This year I was accepted to be an opening act for THE biggest Memorial Day weekend concert in Miami ‘Best of the Best’ . They are known for having the most star studded line-ups, including artists like Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Drake, Rick Ross, Miguel, Big Sean, Keri, Hilson etc…all on one stage. Of course luck would have it, that THIS year day 1 (hip hop and R&B) was cancelled, stripping me of my chance to perform. I am currently working with local artists and out of state artists on my first mixtape in which I am very excited for. I am ready to bring back that REAL R&B. I have tried out for American Idol at the age of 16 and I made it to the last audition before the T.V. Judges. They told me I had a lot of potential, but I was not what they were looking for. The down of my audition is I know I could have done better. I grew sick from waiting outside in the cold that my voice was not as strong or even smooth as it usually is. My notes I sang were flat. . I play an acoustic guitar and I write my own music. I am self taught vocally and instrumentally. I am not saying I am the best, in fact I know you can not ever stop learning. To improve talent we must take the negative opinions on our talent and only better it. And I take my passion very seriously. The Difference between me and all these people that have commented on here, is I am not going to stop here. I know what I can do and I know what I am capable of. And whosoever is reading this, I am saying take the opportunity in discovering me. I won’t let you down, I am a fighter. I know you have had or have dreams. So I know you know what it feels like when your heart craves to fulfill your desires. I am going to take any opportunity I can to do what I love to do with caution. It’s not about fame or the money. I started with an all guy rap group that consisted of 6 young men. I was like the little sister and we were a family.I went solo and moved from Chicago to Brooklyn and was inspired by the Afro Punk movement. I began to experiment with styles and found my true voice. I was unstoppable. I got a call from my daddy in Oklahoma one night. He was telling me he was having chest pains and the following morning he had a heart attack. He went into a coma and soon after passed away. He was my very best friend and soul mate/twin. He was my biggest supporter and pushed me to record and perform rregularly. I thought I would use music to cope with such a terrible loss, but I found that it was too hurtful to record songs my father would never hear. Elana CarpenterDear E! I’m submitting my son to be castes in “Opening Acts” for so many reasons, but most of all because of his heart. Cort was offered an opportunity to play professional baseball after college, and weeks before his opportunity, it was taken away from him because of a car accident. His back was injured enough to keep him off of the ball field and to never return fully capable. Cort was known for his unbelievable quick hands and power when hitting a baseball. After Cort found out he wouldn’t be able to really capitalize on his professional baseball opportunities that had been presented to him, he struggled for a while, but because of his heart, he proceeded to follow another dream in the country music business. We had never heard him sing in his life as he refused in front of his dad and I. We heard him for the first time 3 years ago, and since that day, he has solely taken a country music dream into a reality. Cort has made a name for himself in those years and now is in Nashville packing out clubs, but still not getting that national exposure like this opportunity would present. Cort has the commercial look, voice, and stage presence of a seasoned professional. People leave his show in awe. It truly puts a tear on my face every time I watch my son perform because I know what potential opportunity he had in professional baseball, and now he has taken a dream that has been taken away for good, and turned it into something very very special in the country music business. If Cort had one opportunity to open for a national act, it would be enough to escalate him into the spotlight and be a serious up and comer contender in the country music world. He truly is the most humble, sweet loving guy you’d ever meet, and he has spent his entire life savings, and much of ours, trying to get his one chance. He works harder than anyone in the business I can guarantee it. He does all of his own bookings, phone calling, websites, social media, paying his band, funding of all his equipment, and gathering all sponsors he has. Just last year Cort held his own benefit concert for ‘Relay for Life’ cancer organization. He is at the perfect age, 26, and would with no doubt be the next new ‘Tim McGraw’ type artist in the business. I’d never seen anyone work as hard as he has to get where he is today, and I know when be dream is taken away (His professional baseball career opportunity), another one is given. Cort CarpenterAfter my professional baseball dreams were taken away by a car accident, I turned to country music, and since then, I’ve dedicated my life to getting my chance. I’ve been packing out clubs all over the USA, and now I am in Nashville fortunate enough to be doing the same. Although, without a major label behind you, your chances of getting to be an opening act are slim to none. We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars getting my name out there, my CD cut, and video promotions. I’ve been playing for tips in Nashville as my full time job. Thousands and thousands of people believe in my chances, but I continue to be deflated by all of my hard work and grueling hours, and the right people not being around at the right time. When people leave our show, they are taken back and wondering why we haven’t been discovered. I continue to pray for my opportunity to be an opening act for a major country act as I will continue to do whatever it takes to get there. Because so much of it is political or who you know, I’m just hoping for a chance that I know would be the opportunity that would change my life, forever. I hope the casting will check out my material, look, voice, and all of the rest. I know you won’t be let down, and it’d be something you’d never regret. My brother is a very talented singer, he’s been singing and performing for as long as I can remember, and learned how to play the bass guitar when he was a teenager. Ever since he could play, he’s been in a band. He currently is the lead singer and founder of Johnny Rockette, a pop-punk band based in the suburbs of IL. Johnny Rockette has gained a large fanbase in the Chicago area, enough so that they are playing at the House of Blues Chicago. Johnny Rockette’s sound is most similar to bands like All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, and Blink 182, who are some of their inspirations. Patrick writes and helps record most of the band’s songs, and has a degree in Audio Arts and Acoustics.
