The Winner Is… – NBC Casting Call

Do you love to sing? Have you always dreamt of competing on a television signing competition? The Winner Is…. is the latest musical phenomenon from the network that has brought the amazingly successful The Voice and America’s Got Talent to televisions around the world. The singing series will be breaking the mold with an ingenious twist on the traditional music show mold. Contestants will battle each other one on one through a series of competition rounds, each with a predetermined cash prize for the winner. At the end of each round the singers can decide whether they want to quit and walk away with the cash before the judges return with their decision. Who will have faith in themselves and their performance  Who will go for the cash and who will stick around for the grand prize? Millions of fans around the world will soon find out in this fantastic mixture of American Idol and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.     Greetings from Maryland! My name is Leanto Jones. I’m 48 years old, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, now residing in Edgewood, Maryland; Harford County. When people ask me why I like to sing, or why I should be considered for a show of this magnitude, I simply tell them this. Many people, like myself, have a gift to have people forget about their troubles for a while; a power that allows people to go to a place that makes them feel good. It takes you to a time long past, or prepares you for a bright future; whether an hour from now, or even years from now, this power that we as singers have, allows us to communicate good, positive messages that’s for the good of mankind, and for our very selves. I made a choice to convey that communication, and 25 years later, I’m glad I made that choice. I’ve been performing musical theater productions for that length of time, as well as singing ‘The Star Spangled Banner” for a minor league baseball team, and in church, where it all started. I’m classically trained in voice, and I play piano. I currently have two videos on YouTube that has gotten rave reviews, but most importantly, I believe in the gift that God alone has given me, as well as God the Gift-Giver! It’s my belief that He has destined me to do great things with this gift. I also believe in the purpose for using it. All of these reasons are why I strongly feel that I should be considered for your program.     I am 23 years old. I have two boys ages 5 and 3 who are my entire world. I’ve been singing since I was about 8 and I am very good at it but, never have been confident enough to go public with it. My mom always fusses at me and says, “You have such an amazing voice and all you do is sing in the car!” She’s right though.. and nothing would make her happier if I finally just did it and went out there! I would love to know that my kids have a bright future set up for them. I would love to help my mom so she doesn’t have to work two jobs just to still live paycheck to paycheck. It’s time and I’m ready. I’m ready to do this for me, for my mom, and for my boys. It would be an example for them. To show them to go after their dreams…and the best way to start is to go after mine.

I love to sing, in the shower, in the car, for my kids, in front of the mirror, down hallways. Pretty much everywhere. But I’ve always been afraid to sing in in front of a crowd. My over worked mother has been caring for my nephews the last 8yrs. I want her to retire and finally go back to school like she was doing before she had to take of her grandchildren. I want to be able to put my daughter, niece, and nephews thru college. I want them to have all the opportunities that my mother and I gave up for them. I want so badly for them to be able to do what they love, instead of what they must. $1,000,000 would afford for all of these things to happen.     I am a 15 year old Southern Californa girl. I attend John Burroughs Highschool, a part of the show choir program wich is beyond amazing and had amazing records! Its been the best in the Nation for many many years! Family says since I could even make sounds, I would hum and feel the music. Every since I could talk, i started singing right away! As a 3 year d at my preschool promotion, I even said to the mic, that I wanted to be a singer. I havent stopped since the day I could start. Its a passion of mine and I already have experience singimg infront of a hige crowd! Freshman year of Highshool, I had a solo in our bug Pop Show. Even before that, I was a part of the show choir at David Starr Jordan Middle School, wich also has a great record ! Ranked best in California ! I had little individual acts back then also. My family isnt so good on momey either. It would be a miracle if I could compete and win some. It would help me and my family a whole lot! I also have to pay thousands to be apart of my choir program and its hard to raise it on our own, its almost impossible. This show would be the perfect thing to an easier life! The producers and millions of viewers need to hear my world class, professional quality voice, experience my dynamic stage presence, and see that, as a 41-year-old divorced mother of three, it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. My story will warm the hearts of many. I’ve overcome homelessness, poverty, and a debilitating illness by staying positive and hopeful that my efforts would produce good results. I teach voice lessons and music theory to children every week to make ends meet, but there’s so much more I could be doing with my talent!

    For years I’ve sung at weddings, parties, community events, local musical theater, restaurants, karaoke bars, etc. I’ve won a few contests, and was even paid a few times. My biggest gigs were opening for Air Supply at Gadsden Alabama’s Riverfest in 2005 and performing my original theme song for the same city with the local symphony orchestra in 2006. Music industry professionals that I’ve met along the way have always been impressed with my talent, pitch, tone, interpretation, etc., but neither they nor I have ever had the money to invest in my career as a singer/songwriter.

    Now is the time for me to share my story and my voice with the world, to entertain and encourage people with my gift. I have a lot to offer, and your show is the perfect opportunity for me to shine. I thank you in advance for your consideration.

    Hiya – my name is Erin. What I wouldn’t give to have the opportunity to compete on this show. About 10 years ago when all of the singing shows really took off, my parents urged me to audition. I had made all of the arrangements to finally get out there and do what I love when my dad died of a massive heart attack at age 49. To make matters worse, just 8 months later, my mom too died of a massive heart attack at age 49. I come from a family of 7 sisters and brothers.. our lives were pretty shattered. I didn’t end up trying out.. Make a long story short. I’m a singer, I love to entertain and I would love to have the opportunity to make my parents proud, even if it means from heaven. Please give me a shot.. It would mean a great deal to me and I promise.. I won’t disappoint!

    I have been singing since the age of 11 and never stopped while working a regular gig. I fronted a group for a number of years and arranged harmony parts for them as well. At one point Altlantic Records had an interest in signing but Uncle Sam made that short lived due to being drafted. Spent 10 months in Vietnam, went right back into singing when I returned and still enjoy it just as much as ever. I have a unique way of changing my vocal tone and range to simulate the original artists from the 40’s to the present. I would like the opportunity to reach out to many people who love what I do since being on the social networks such as facebook, twitter, etc. With so much good talent out there, I think I could fit in. I appear to look alot younger than my age at 64, and sing in all ranges as well. To me it would be worth a try more for the curiosity of the peoples reaction when I change my style of singing in every song.

A friend that sat in my living room for a listen to some of my music said after two hours of original music that I was “the best artist he never heard”. I have been singing all my life, which is a considerable number of years, in spite of the fact that I have a severe hearing loss in both ears. I have raised my boys, one of which is a classical musician, and am now ready to do my own music. I hope you will give me an opportunity to share what I love to do.

    Hello my name is Sean Chia (Age 17)……Chia, yes like the Chia pet. (“Chi-chi-chi-chia”) I am used to being made fun of for such a name. In addition, a series of recent deaths in my family and financial struggles placed a large burden of stress upon my family. Singing helped to relieve some of the stress and allowed me to escape some of the teasing I experienced at school. Needless to say, I am quite overweight, but I do not allow that to get in my way of expressing my life through singing. By being part of The Winner Is… I hope to represent a crowd of singers that usually is underestimated and hidden in the darkness of society. The million dollar prize would help to transform my family’s financial situation and permit me to give back to my community.

Another “positive side” to my adolescene is my weight. Both of these things interfered with my confidence and gave my classmates substance to their making fun of me. The only thing that would help me escape the world of being jeered at was singing. Singing in the shower, the street, at the store, between classes, at recesses, in music class.. It all was my personal escape. Being part of this show would help me to prove myself to America and put myself out there, without being made fun of or discouraged. In addition, the prize would help me give back to my community and those who helped me forget about the teases. I would help my parents pay off my schooling and the bills to which I have added.
