Matthew VlossakAll my life I have been searching for the answers to my adoption. I am 25 yrs. old from New Jersey and was adopted from South Korea since birth with little to no information about my biological parents. I connected to the character of Peter Parker because he too is an orphan on the journey to find the truth about his parents. I was raised by my (adopted) grandparent’s as both of my (adopted) parents worked on the weekends. My grandparents were my Uncle Ben & Aunt May. My grandmother got me into the arts, comics, while my grandfather got me into the outdoor activities/”hands on” modeling kind of work (sort of like how Uncle Ben was a bridge builder in The Amazing Spider-Man). Both my grandparents brought me up to be the best person I could be, like how Aunt May and Uncle Ben raised Peter.Both of my grandparents LOVED Spider-Man themselves and my grandmother actually owned a few Spidey shirts herself. She would bring me to the local comic store every week to get a new comic and watch the 90’s Spider-Man with me on Saturday mornings. That’s why this film means so much to me; it reminds me of them. Both passed away before The Amazing Spider-Man was announced. But they were alive when Raimi’s films were coming out and they watched all of that trilogy with me. My grandmother bought me Spider-Man 3 on DVD as a gift before she passed. This is why I am striving to be part of this film. It would mean alot to me to be part of something that I not only liked, but something that my best friends (my grandparents) enjoyed as well. I saw The Amazing Spider-Man 9 times in the theater and imagined what they would both say during/after the film.Sure I was the typical “not popular” kid in public school like every other fan, but I feel I connect to the character on many levels most people do not. I have also been a HUGE Marc Webb fan since his work on music videos for bands back in the day. From Yellowcard to Brand New to My Chemical Romance.
