Switched At Birth - ABC Family

ABC Family has steadily become one of cable’s most watched networks with a strong lineup of fantastic programming, following in that tradition is the new series Switched At Birth. The series is currently wrapping up it’s acclaimed first season and an all new second season has just been ordered. Auditions will be held soon for the first half of season two which will begin broadcasting this summer.

Switched At Birth centers on two teenage girls from opposite sides of the tracks. Vanessa Marano plays Bay Kennish, a girl from a wealthy family with two loving parents and a brother while Katie Leclerc plays Daphne Vasquez, rendered deaf from a bout with meningitis at an early age who lives with her single mother in a poor neighborhood. The girls come to find out that they were switched at birth in the hospital as infants and that each has been living the others life. The drama and emotion is on full tilt as the two families meet and try to establish a relationship for the well being of the girls. This the most fantastically original and well acted program on TV with solid supporting cast that includes the fabulous talents of Lea Thompson (Back To The Future) and Constance Marie (George Lopez)! Few television shows have ever handled such delicate subject matter as skillfully. This is a dream showcase for undiscovered actors of any age. Most people consider me spontaneous but can be serious at the same time. my personality gets to most people because i let them be who they want to be not someone that wants to hide that. i do not have any acting experence but i always act out in front of friends and family. i would act out in front of class even though ive been told to do musicals and plays in high school but i never had time for that in high school. i was to busy focusing on school and softball. softball has been my life and ive been playing for 16 years. ive been known as the person to make peoples day.i also know sign language because of that i am hard of hearing. i lost my hearing when i was 3, it was a gentic defec without my hearing aids i wont be able to hear well at all… people have been saying that theres no way i could do acting because im hard of hearing. i just want to prove them wrong that i can be one heck of an actress. ive realized that hard of hearing and deaf people could the best actor/actress because of their facal expressions and just knowing how to react to different things. for me its easy cause i can pull off being anybody who i want to be. especially when someone gives me a role i could figure out on my own how to be that person with out any questions. ill be willing to give you my resume. thank you for taking your time to read this. id love to hear from you!

    Although I don’t have any acting experience, I am extremely charismatic and am able to adapt to any situation. One of the reasons I’m so interested in this show is because I began losing my hearing at the age of 14. I may not be completely deaf but it’s still unknown if it’s going to stay that way. Even though I’m hard of hearing I don’t let it get in the way of my everyday life. I’m just now in the process of having to get hearing aids because its getting hard to have to read lips all the time especially since not everyone can be looking right at me when speaking to me. I can really relate to the struggles the characters on the show are having and I feel like it would make me a perfect addition to the cast. I’m one of the funniest people I know and pride my self on being able to make others laugh. I am the definition of a babyface, if I didn’t have boobs I could pass for 14, unless I’m wearing make up I could probably pass for 25. The only catch is I don’t know how to put make up on nor do I ever wear it. I’m a very big believer of natural beauty. I believe I would be perfect for this show because I can adapt to any surroundings or situation and get along great with all types of people. Doing something like this has always been a dream of mine and this would be a great opportunity for me.

The third is Film Editing. 2 years ago I got an ear infection that affected my hearing. Since then my hearing in one of my ears has diminished. I now struggle to sometimes keep a conversation going and somdtimes I need to read lips. I understand the struggles that some of the characters face and I can relate to them. If I was on this show I would be dedicated and I would work hard everyday. I know how to work hard aswell as to play hard. I’ve wanted to do this for a while now and I would be passionate and be my best everyday, if I am selected. I will not disappoint!

    I live in Colorado and will be 46 in April, 2013. I am 4′ 11″ tall; have red hair (colored), I am white. I have attended many acting classes over the years, including a 6 month extensive acting class in Victoria, BC. Canada back in 2001. In addition to acting, I write children/YA books, poetry, and sign to music. I, like many people in these posts, have dreamed of guest starring in this wonderful TV series. I am a self-taught ASL singer. I learned through books and music and continuously study ASL. I sign a lot of exact English and it does take my brain a little longer to understand what someone has said to me in ASL,but that’s only because I’m not around a lot of signers. I feel fortunate to be able to know this beautiful language as my second language, and would love an opportunity to have a chance to guest star on the show. If needed, I am able to send in a signing video for an audition.
    I too, like Ms. LeClerc, have Meniere’s, though I have not lost any hearing. My balance is affected by this condition, and I also live with migraines sometimes. However, I would still like to be considered for a chance to audition for a guest-starring role on the show.

We all human and we all the same. Deaf and Hard of Hearing earns the rights and equal as the hearing.     I was born with a bilateral hearing of loss. Simply said, I’m Deaf. Although in the Deaf world, I am considered as Hard-of-Hearing. I am profoundly Deaf and I use hearing aids to help me to hear more. Thus, I am able to speak and hear very well. I am able to primarily lip-read, allowing me to carry a one-on-one spoken conversation.

    All my life, I’ve been going from one school to another school, transferring so I can get the best service I can get in. I was raised in a public mainstream school so I could be able to interact with hearing people in order to socialize better.

    I am of South American descent, I speak Spanish fluently. Although, I was raised in a bilingual household – hearing less was a long-term struggle for me. It wasn’t until I was in my teen years that I was exposed to the Deaf Community.

    To see their native language, American Sign Language and how they viewed their Deafness as a self-identity rather than a disability was a life-changing experience.

    I like to think that I am lucky, for being a part of the hearing and Deaf worlds. When I first heard about the series “Switched At Birth”, I was thrilled because the show can finally shed light about the false stereotypes and misconceptions that most hearing people have.

    Hello, I’m a 24 year old female from Arkansas. People say I look a lot younger than I really am. It has been my dream since I was a little girl to become an actress. I can’t ever remember wanting to be anything else.

    I came from a very poor family and growing up, both of my parents were drug addicts, so I never really had a way to pursue my dream. As I got older, I convinced myself that it would never happen, so I decided to go to college and get a degree, because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. You know, go to college, get a degree, and find a good job… all that good stuff. 😉

    I graduated college in May of 2011 and I’ve realized that I can either work the rest of my life for someone who went after THEIR dream, or I can go after MY dream. So I have decided to go after my dream (acting).

    I’ve recently been in a few films and a play and have a few other small projects lined up, but it’s hard to find stuff here because Arkansas isn’t very big on the entertainment industry. I am saving up my money so I can move to Los Angeles. I am giving this 100% and will do what it takes to become a successful actress and I know that it won’t happen with me being in Arkansas.

I’ve never get a chance to learn how to act. I used to be in MIME for my church for a few years and I really enjoyed acting. I can read lips very well, skilled in sign language, I can speak very well and clear, I wear a hearing aid and a cochlear implant. I am able to ride and train horses. I’ve done it since I was 8 years old. I showed horses in few different states, in jumping (children’s hunter class, 3′ 8″ high) Since my riding life is over, I would like to try to learn how to act and I can learn very quickly. (it would be awesome if the show has an episode with riding horses, if you need a Deaf horseback rider, I’m the person you’d be looking for!) I adore Daphne in Switched at Birth, I feel that I can relate with Daphne about Hearing world and Deaf world. When I first heard about the show, I was thrilled that they have T.V shows that involve Deaf/Hard of Hearing people!

    I’ve been watching this series since it first began. The characters are very inspiring, and well put together. I tried to learn sign language in junior high school and it really interested me. After seeing this show it made me see a different sign of it. The plot and story line of this show is really amazing. The events and cliffhangers are the best, especially at the end of a season. I would be honor to be consider to star in this show. I am also able to dye my hair if needed. I have 8 years dance experience, 2 years singing and a year and a half of acting lessons.     My name is Lucas Talbot. I am 18 years old. I was born and currently live in Los Angeles. I am about 5’6″. I am half caucasian and half asian. I am the only deaf person in my family. I was born deaf in both ears and I have a cochlear Implant on my right ear. I grew up in a hearing environment, so I took speech therapy for the last 16 years, just so I could speak english really well and communicate with the hearing people. It was tough growing up in my childhood, but I have always told myself, whatever position that I’m in, I would take advantage of it and make it fun for me to do, regardless of good or bad things, I would take advantage of it and have fun. So I have been really grateful with my life. I am a student at Cal State Northridge. I am learning ASL because I have classes with other deaf students. When I first came to CSUN, I was shocked by ASL because it was new to me and ever since being here, I have been motivated to learn ASL and communicate with the deaf community here at CSUN. Acting, playing sports, watching sports and I like to smile a lot and making other people smile are some of my many hobbies that I like to do and I am very dedicated to my hobbies and so I a lot of have fun doing it. I have taken drama classes back in high school and I took an improv class over the summer. During those classes, it made realize that I am very comfortable on stage and makes me very outgoing and confident in myself because I am a shy and quiet person when I am not on stage. It would really cool to be on the set of Switched at Birth in any role that there is, guest starring, recurring, or even as an extra. Marlee Matlin is one of my idols, she is one of the reason that made me believe that I can pursue acting and she proves that deaf people can be actors as well. She also helped me make myself be more confident in myself. She is expanding the horizons of jobs for the deaf community and I appreciate what she has done to make people take notice of deaf people, not in just acting, but in everything in general. So it would be really cool to meet her. Being an actor, on television or in a movie, would be dream for me come true, and I thought what’s better to achieve that by being on Switched at Birth in any role and working alongside such a good cast.
