RachelHello there my name is Rachel, and in my mere 20 years of life I have had a very dark past but I turn to singing to help me cope and escape from my demons. Despite everything that has happened I try to stay positive and optimistic. Most people wouldn’t expect I have been through so much because I seem very happy on the outside. I turn all of my anger and frustration into my singing and it somehow transports me to a better place where I am able to be at peace. Rising Star seems like it could be more intense, a combination of American Idol and The Voice. Suspenseful and constructively critical at the same time. I would be happy to be a part of it.I grew up on a military base in Seoul, South Korea and was really sheltered from the media (other than movies and cartoons), but I’ve loved singing all my life. I was inspired by my mamma singing to me, especially lullabies, when I was little, and I sang because I wanted to be like her. I also grew up not knowing much of my identity. I grew up thinking I was just Asian, a majority, but I found out in my middle school years that I was an interracial minority, a Blasian (Black and Asian), and the history behind it. It completely changed my simple perspective on singing, and I started to experiment with my voice a little more, adding feeling and passion while connecting to the lyrics. I’m an aspiring singer and have sang all my life with my family in my church choir. I’ve taken a couple years of voice lessons to better my voice.
