Margie CarterI am a 52 year old professional African American female. I do not have any acting experience. I grew up in the era of listening to James Brown and many other Motown greats. The music that was played and written during my teenage years presented a message to the listener. To be a part of a movie recognizing the musical talent of an icon as well as the civic efforts of giving back to the community and risking his life to make the lives of other Africian Americans better, is unexplainable. Mr. Brown played a part in history with his music to teach and be an example of human rights. I am not taking anything away from any of the warriors that fought for my right to be Black and have the opportunity to survive in this world but its good for the younger generation to know that many musicians did what they could to make the future brighter and the world a little better. It would be an honor and a privilege to be apart of this movie celebrating the life of James Brown. We never missed a James Brown show. We used to take our friends to go see James Brown (ya gotta see this). We could look out the window to see if the line was getting too long, and then go because the line was 3 deep and could wrap around the corner. I know all James’ early hits, Lost Someone, Oh Baby don’t you weep etc..knew most members of his band from Bernard Purdie and Maceo Parker to Levi Rasberry, Bootsey Collins, Bobby Byrd and Bobby Bennett, and female guess like Marva Collins and Vickie Anderson. For a variety of reasons; the first being my theatrical background. I have been in quite a few plays for eight years now as well as being the founder of my high school’s drama club. In these eight years I also had played many characters ranging from the girl next door to your worst teenage nightmare.
