Shadowhunters ( The Mortal Instruments TV Series)It is a book series that is loved by tens of millions. It was a movie that was loved by too few to continue. I found that I am naturally good at acting out emotions, using movement, and being able to speak loudly. For example I can actually cry on a crying scene without using fake tears or doing some trick to make myself cry. I actually feel how the person feels in the scene and bring real tears. I can act silly, awkward, serious, nervous, dumb, smart, angry, upset, sad, and do a very believable painful scream/yell. I have knowledge of acting methods, and I’m really good at memorizing lines. I love strict rules in how things are done because if not I will ask. So I won’t get all offended and upset when things change. I would prefer it so I can learn more and really get things best to the way the director visions it. I really get into the character, making myself feel that is really me and that is really what is going on around me; making it come off more genuine. Wow, I typed a lot! This will most likely not bring me any benefit but doesn’t hurt to try! No matter what I will find different ways to get into acting and hopefully one day being on something that I can happily look back on and say “Yea, I was in that!” So yea, other then that I work well with others. Random facts I like to volunteer when I can, I’m in cross-fit (so in good shape), I can pull of many many styles (They are always changing) I can do makeup/fx-makeup well, so I can do my own makeup if need be. EmmaTextI am pretty obsessed with all of Cassandra Clares work and once promised myself to try to be part of it if ever possible. So I am going to do this, even though unlike so many, I have almost no experience in acting and I am most definitely not studying it. That’s for two reasons, first of all I know that I am only passionated enough to act in something I truly love and second of all; I live in Finland and you know, you just can’t make living out of it in here. I like the basic things; food, books and traveling. Secretly I also like studying a tiny little bit. I can not sing and love to do it just to annoy everyone with my terrible voice (thank god the shadowhunters is not a musical). I am short, like seriously only 162 cm (thank god for heels too) with real pale skin and brown hair (that never really stays brown for too long). My eyes are blue and mostly I use contacs, because I am, you know, pretty blind. I work out at gym and I am in pretty good shape (honestly). I also play floorball, which I think is not that big of a thing in there, but it’s like hockey without the ice or the skates and a ball instead of a puck (so nothing like hockey really). Oh and I am nineteen by the way, and I guess I look pretty much my age. And a girl if that isn’t clear yet. My English is pretty good, like you can’t usually even tell that I am not native, only when I get too hyped I might sound like so not native. (Also if for whatever reason needed I speak Finnish, Swedish and some German). I guess that’s it then, hope to hear something back. (Or not, now I can at least think that I did something for it). I knew nothing about the book series but now find myself being absorbed by it, craving to know more. I think it might be the first series since Harry Potter that actually has had this kind of impact on me 🙂 I know I’m not the only one who loves these books/the show and to be able to be a part of something that would make so many people happy would truly be a wonderful experience. The whole cast/crew seem to be amazing people that create an environment on set that I think would help me grow as a person just by being part of it. So I do apologize for the spamming, it was an accident on my part.Shadowhunters has certainly come a long way- from the casting, to the promotions, to the details and design- there has been so much care and love put into this series, more than I’ve seen on any other television show. Especially if a form of media is based off a book, it’ll be hard to please fans with certain things, but Shadowhunters has been flying high again and again.Especially when it comes to character portrayals. Each actor has taken the time to read the books (probably) and work with the character so that they convey just what that character means, and when i watch interviews, I know the cast loves the characters. They understand the characters to a point where everything falls into place and it’s real and it feels as if you know these characters, as if they’re your friends, and I admire the amount of dedication they’ve put in. As I’ve watched this show, I’ve been able to sympathize and grow along with these characters.That’s what I want to do. With Shadowhunters, they show you that it’s okay to be vulnerable and scared. They show me, as a woman, that it’s okay to dress up and be super feminine, all the while still being kick-ass. This show has sparked for me a sort of self-acheivement: embrace yourself, accept who you are and work towards your goals with a passion. My passion is film and television, more specifically acting. Acting on this show would be my ideal because of how it’s helped me grow as a person, and how I want to build a career in acting. I’ve always been interested in the sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal genre, and this show is a mash-up of all three, which is perfect.I’ve performed and managed theater the past four years (high school theater, I acted the last two years, and was stage manager/lighting/sound all four years.) As someone who has read all the books, and who watches the show, it’s clear that the main ship is Malec, and not Clace. This shift of focus from the traditional/predictable heterosexual pairing onto a queer one, is quite interesting, especially because, in the books, Clace is such a strongly pushed pairing. Queerness and gender can be played with a lot in this series, and I’m sure the presence of a popular gay pairing, a bisexual man, and the later pairing of two lesbian characters will have a huge impact on queerness in media and a huge positive effect it will have for the younger generations currently watching it. Because of these currently evolving factors as the series continues, and as the fanbase shows patterns of who they watch for and which plotlines they prefer, I would like to join the cast to contribute to the series.I know that Aline Penhallow and Helen Blackthorn are yet to be introduced to the series. I think that casting someone who is queer, of color, and gender non-conforming for one or both of these roles would have a huge impact both for those communities and on the future of tv casting. Malec has become a pairing with so much more depth and impact than it had in the book series. Those who have worked with me however, have pinned me with the nickname, “Mona” because I once sought a career in the tattooing industry, but decided to renew my scholastic education instead. I am a writer, as well as a performer. Preferably a morbid one . Portraying obnoxious and or deranged/frightening characters allows me to release my demons. Plus it’s fun to see reactions. While volunteering at haunted house/ships I always get a good laugh afterward, for I know not to break character. Each performance (not unlike my writing) is my own personal mission. Basically when the curtain goes up/filming begins/ or the eerie music plays, it’s do or die. I can be a bit “eccentric.” On stage that is. At home I am far too engrossed in my own writing to care deeply and or obsess over anything. And during class I switch between being an arduous student, to the girl who either has her head in a fantasy/horror novel (which is consequently hidden in a textbook) or is taking notes for future skit/other literary works. I have been in numerous school productions since I was a mere eleven-year-old girl. One showcase actually featured my own hand-written monologue which I performed when I was fourteen while being filmed by my town’s local channel. Unfortunately I currently have not had the opportunity to participate in theatre for the past 2 years due to my being relocated to a collaborative school a couple years ago during my Sophomore year of high school. Not unlike others within my family I have neurotic disabilities: Bipolar disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, and ADHD. I am medicated however. After my nanna passed away from lung cancer, I sequestered myself in my room for a bit more than half a year, and rarely left home, choosing to be almost agoraphobic. But not quite as I didn’t have any fear. Only anger at the world. In all honesty, I still to this day am unsure if I truly missed her or was more upset by the fact that it threw a wrench in the works of my routine. Naturally, I loathe change, but have become flexible over the years. The more human-side of me though clearly valued her opinion and felt lost. She thought the world of me and that added flame to the fire, igniting my ego. I still have my papa but it’s just not the same. My Nanna understood me. I was bullied and misunderstood for my diagnoses practically my whole life. Even before I received documentation on them. I have a very limited understanding of empathy and to this day I fake the majority of my emotions so as to blend in. I suppose you could say that acting for me is a bit more of a lifestyle than a gig. The theatre was my saving grace as an adolescent. It not only gave me hope and the tools to thrive, but essentially taught me how to be proud of who I am.I am a fan of Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter Chronicles. The Mortal Instruments helped me through hospitalizations and med. re-evaluations. The world which she has created is a masterpiece. Growing up I had several gay/bisexual friends whom I still keep in contact with, and despite my trouble with empathy I truly feel protective over them. I hate how cruel a few of their parents were (and in some cases, still are) by not accepting and even encouraging abuse. It makes me angry just thinking about it. I adore the whole “Malec” phenomenon which Clare has constructed. It truly is a beautiful thing to see more LGBT characters in modern day writing/tv. I wish more people would open up their heart for the LGBT community like that. Tolerance is one thing but really what the world needs is to show them that they aren’t “wrong” or immoral. Unfortunately many people within the community, particularly teenagers are horribly affected by discrimination. Even now despite that schools allow clubs like GSA, children are still bullied. Not necessarily in public but within their own households. That is one of the reasons why I believe characters like Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane (as well try as the lesser-mentioned Aline Penhallow and Helen Blackthorn ) are needed. So that somewhere someone who reads the book series or sees the tv show, knows that they aren’t alone.I would love the opportunity to audition for the Freeform series: Shadowhunters. Fantasy/Dramas are an amazing thing because they combine reality with what dreams (and nightmares) are made of. I have also watched the film and I am currently following the T.V adaptation. I am versatile and can adapt to any role. Because I have read the books I can connect with the characters easily, this will help with characterisation and understanding the characters. With my educational experience with acting, I have a good understanding of performing and how to develop a character. I am so happy the show is getting a second season!
