Jacqueline KnowlerBy the second page of ‘Robopocalypse’, I thought, ‘this has to be a film, either Ridley Scott or Steven Spileberg’–I was so excited by it, and could hardly believe it when I got to the end and read about the impending film–fantastic! I emailed Daniel H. Wilson and he replied–further excitement! Now –the reason for my great excitement is because although there have been many superb sci-fi films dealing with machines and robots–none–for me–have ever gone far enough in terms of reasons/build up and increasingly severe consequences towards end-of-human-race scenario. This has the potential to be an amazing blockbuster if it stays true to the author’s story and vision. I have loved sci-fi ever since I saw ‘The Time Machine’, starring Rod Taylor, when I was a little girl. As I have got older, the more apocalyptic the story, the better; I’ve no idea why, as I’m a very upbeat and optimistic person! I am not 12 or 25 like Nicole or Denis above, and I’m under no illusions that I’m ever going to set the world on fire with a majestic cameo from an unknown–(!)–no, I’m a 54 year old teacher, and when I tell you that my only acting ‘job’ has been a main role in a small school production of a childen’s opera called ‘Ahmed the Woodseller’ when I was 10, I think you can see how very optimistic I am…. However, I would love to try out for a small role, even if I have to die horribly and anonymously in the first wave of the human cull! I keep seeing Tom Cruise and Jamie Bell as the Wallaces, and Angelina Jolie as Cherrah (this in my capacity as experienced casting director) oh dear, how to shoot oneself in foot. On the plus side, in terms of a larger part, if Mikiko isn’t to be CGI’d, I wouldn’t need hair, make-up or soft-focus!
