Rings – MovieIt started with a videotape and grew into a full blown horror movie franchise with multiple installments produced in two countries and now a prequel to The Ring is set to roll into production. Oscar nominated visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, Hellboy II: The Golden Army) has signed on to produce Rings and fabulous casting calls have been announced for actors of all ages for this chilling new Rings feature.Based on the novel by Kôji Suzuki, the original The Ring showed the events that occurred after a mysterious videotape went into circulation and killed anyone who watched it seven days later. The chilling story and it’s sequel shocked audiences around the world and now Rings will bring a fresh take on the series to theaters everywhere. The film will be set years before the originaland show how the terror began and how the unforgettable video came to be. Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz (Somewhere Beautiful, The Fifth Wheel, Fuoriclasse) will star in this sure to be hit prequel as the tortured Samara along with Alex Roe (The 5th Wave, The Jury, The Fugitives). Rings will be directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez who will be making his second feature following his award winning debut Before The Fall. The screenplay was written by the tremendous trio of Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, A Time to Kill, Angels & Demons), David Loucka (The Dream Team, Borderline, House at the End of the Street) and Jacob Aaron Estes (Mean Creek, The Details). Producers Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black 3, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Catch Me If You Can) and 3-time Academy Award nominee Walter F. Parkes (Gladiator, Volunteers, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) will join del Toro and their fantastic creative team in bringing yet another chapter in this saga to the big screen.
