Within the last year, I have developed an enormous amount of respect and appreciation for One Direction. Not knowing much about the band, other than a few of their songs, I was flipping through TV channels after taking a Microbiology test that completely wiped me out. I wasn’t looking for any show in particular, just one that could help me unwind and de-stress from a long day. I happened to catch the end of an interview of Harry Styles, and something about him made me stay on the channel. I can’t quite put my finger on what it was that caught my attention, but it was his unbelievable sense of modesty and gratefulness that lured me into watching it until the end. After the interview ended, I decided to research a bit about the group. Reading their story and watching more interviews, I was blown away by how grounded and “human” they are, even after such success. Each of the boys in One Direction has been such an inspiration to me. Nursing school has been tough, but after a long day at the hospital I know I can count on the boys’ music to put my mind at ease and brighten my day.Now, a little more about myself. Being from a very small town, not many opportunities come knocking at my door. I have discovered that if I want to be successful, I must take charge of my own future and put myself in positions that allow for growth. I am in my second year of nursing school, and along with being a student, I am also an RA (resident advisor). This position has allowed me to expand my people-skills and shaped me into the outgoing, happy-go-lucky person that I am.
