Into The Woods – Movie

Pick a star, any star – they’ve all signed on for Walt Disney Pictures exciting new musical fantasy film and now you could be a part of this epic movie event. Into The Woods will be brought to the big screen by Oscar nominated director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Memoirs of a Geisha) who has compiled a killer lead cast that includes Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Donnie Brasco, Dead Man), Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia!, The Deer Hunter), Jake Gyllenhaal (The Day After Tomorrow, Donnie Darko, Source Code), Chris Pine (Star Trek, This Means War, Smokin’ Aces), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Up In The Air, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Emily Blunt (The Five-Year Engagement, Looper, The Muppets), Christine Baranski (How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Good Wife, Welcome to Mooseport) and Tracey Ullman (The Tracey Ullman Show, I Love You to Death, Corpse Bride).

Into The Woods will be based on the James Lapine book and subsequent musical collaboration with the legendary Stephen Sondheim that debuted on Broadway in 1987 and has had multiple award winning productions are the world ever since. The project is a whimsical tale that intertwines the plots and most incredible characters from The Brothers Grimm fairy tales including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.     Well, I am an 18 year old girl trying to figure out what I want in life. I am a college student, not pursuing what I love. My parents and family didn’t want me to do theater, they think it is a waste of time. I love acting. It lets me become other people, live another life, be able to “experience new and different things.” Everyone wants to act, wants to be “famous”. I’ve come to the realization that I don’t want to just be famous, I want to do this everyday, and learn how to get better from the best. Meryl Streep, I have looked up to that woman probably my whole life. She is so talented, and everyone loves working with her. I want to be great enough to work with her someday. Johnny Depp, a legend. These two people are my favorite actors, and I may not be the best now, but I do hope in the future I can. I will admit I don’t have that much experience, but it is what I love to do. I have been all over the internet looking for real auditions, real casting calls. My family isn’t supportive of it because there isn’t a guarantee I will be successful. Even if I were to do commercials the rest of my life, at least I would be doing something to gain experience. I want something that will make me happy everyday, a career that will help me take care of my grandmother. She is also very skeptical of me acting, but she says as long as I am happy. She is my rock, if I didn’t have that woman in my life, I would not be where I am today. I want to be able to take care of her. Yes, I could go off and get a degree in Psychology, but I don’t want to study Psychology in college. It isn’t my passion. It is interesting, but acting is a job that changes. You never do the same exact role. Well, unless it’s a series. Acting is the only talent I have. I am no Mariah Carey singer, not a Michael Jackson dancer. I just want to be able to get a script, and play different people. I am so much more comfortable being someone else than I am being myself. It is a stress relief for me. I can get away from everything, have fun, let loose. Obviously it is also a long shot this will even be read, but acting is what I want to do for the rest of my life and I am my only supporter at this point. I am all I have to get auditions, get anything I can get my hands all over. Being happy is all I want, and if I get a chance to prove anything to anyone who matters, I will not let it go to waste.     I’ve always been told that the slate a person gives in an audition is the most vital five to ten seconds because whoever is hiring that actor can tell just from a name what kind of a person they are. So here’s my ten second slate:

    My name is Abigail! I’m eighteen years old! My passion is acting! I’ve been acting for four years and have played Alice in Alice and Wonderland along with many other roles; both leads and extras.

    Off of my slate, I want to add that I am familiar with Into the Woods and to quote from the opening scene that starts off with Cinderella saying, “I wish more than anything. More than life. More than jewels. More than the moon…” That about sums up my feelings about this production and any production I take a shot at in general!

    I’m not bothering with my full resume on this comment because I figure that if you’re interested, and if you even read this, you will email and then from there we can figure things out.

    I would love to be considered for a part because I would add a quirky personality to the set along with a top-notch performance.     I am a 39 year old Caucasian male and I live in Houston Texas.
    Every time I watch a movie or motion picture, I always pay attention to every aspect of the acting performed by the individual actors and actresses. I pay attention to the small details such as facial expressions, eye, hand, and body movement as well as all other nuances of how the actors express the characters they portray. I even pay attention to the voice inflections because all these things are what make up non-verbal communication, a necessary part of making the acting of any character seem realistic. I study how two or more characters interact during the production and how they make all of their communication, both verbal and non-verbal, occur right on cue. If I had the opportunity to become a character in a movie or play, I would implement all of these small details in the best way possible. Intonation, prosidy, pitch, and all the other important elements of linguistics must be accounted for when acting the part of any production. For this reason, I think I have what it takes to make it work well.
    I am able to impersonate a variety of different characters from motion pictures, animated pictures, and cartoons. I can imitate many different voices of various cartoon characters. I have been developing this skill on my own for many years and I have become very skilled at it. The one I am able to do the best is Scooby Doo. I believe that I could be the voice of Scooby Doo and nobody would ever know the difference. Others have told me that I should work in animation.
    I am fully fluent in both English and Spanish. Even though Spanish is my second language, I can speak it with no noticeable accent, even to the point that native Spanish speakers are fooled into thinking that I too am a native speaker. I have the ability to learn lines in other languages as well as all the English dialects around the world and speak them flawlessly. I can do the voice-over acting for the Spanish speaking audiences.
    Although I am 39 years old, I am tall (6’4″) and relatively handsome. Even though I currently have a few extra pounds (230 lbs), I have the ability to become slender and semi-athletic in appearance within a short period of time. This is due to the fact that I was a former long-distance runner with the high school track and field team. I played high school football as well.
    I am musically inclined. I play the piano and sing. Currently, I teach piano to two girls ages 9 and 6. Therefore, I know how to read music if I had read it to prepare for a performance with a musical.
    I used to be a Space Shuttle Engineer in Houston, Texas until the Space Shuttle program ended. Acting in a movie and working with rocket ships are two completely different things but I consider myself very versatile and able to do many things with a degree of perfection.
    I’ve often imagined what it would be like to be acting in a movie or a play. I’d like to experience the real thing and find out what I can really do on stage in front of an audience and in front of cameras.

    I have had the pleasure to work with Casa Mañana when they debuted ‘Into the Woods Junior’ and the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education when they performed ‘The Nutcracker’ and those experiences have helped shaped my acting career and have helped hone my technique. Other events such as ‘Once Upon a Time’, multiple years of competitive cheerleading,recitals, talent shows, and a performance at Universal Studios with my school choir have also helped along the way.

    I believe that I should be cast for Into the Woods because I actually already have some familiarity with the script and its characters as I’ve performed ‘Into the Woods Junior’ with Casa Mañana and I am willing to play any character given to me and do it to the best of my ability. My extracurricular activities also give me an edge that many other girls do not have. Why look for one dancer, one actress, one singer, ect., when you can find one girl that is able to do it all?

    Being able to work in this movie “Into the Woods” alongside great actors and actresses such as Johnny Depp (“Pirates”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “Tourist”, Meryl Streep (“Devil Wears Prada”, “Julie, Julia”, “Momma Mia”), Emily Blunt (“Devil Wears Prada”) and Christine Baranski (“Grinch”) will help me to make a name for myself and it will give me the opportunity to learn from experienced actors who have a vast amount of knowledge and experience! I have seen almost every one of Johnny Depp’s movies multiple times and I am a HUGH Disney fan.

    I love Grimm’s fairy tales including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. My favorites are Cinderalla and Snow White and have been watching them since I was a toddler.

    The reason I think I should be considered as a supporting role for “Into the Woods” is that I have wanted to pursue acting since the second grade and continue to take classes, participate in plays and continue to audition for both theater and movies. Being an actor is my lifelong dream!!!

    Hi! I am a little different from everyone else because…

    I actually have performed Into The Woods live before. I love the intricacies of Sondheim’s work, and the integration of all the Grimm’s fairytales. Not to mention the great humour of the mention of “nectarines” and breasts…. which are everywhere throughout the musical… And plenty of great humour to be had when it comes to the insane about of sexual innuendos. Looking from a deeper theatrical approach, there are so many things that you can take from the many characters going into the woods, and out of the woods… There’s always going to be giants that try to get in your way; witches that are there to give you everything, but also give you the choices of deception; a mother that holds so tightly to her child, that with all the clinging, she loses her anyway, because she never gave her the chance to live a life; once you get what you wish you’re not always happy; “the slotted spoon DOES hold a potato”; If life were only moments, then you’d never know you’d had one; but you can’t live there; if you stray from the path, you may learn things that you have never learned before, and come out a whole lot wiser on the other side, and much more confident. People are not always as they appear, “opportunity is not a lengthy visitor”; among many lessons… But I think the greatest thing to learn is that we’re all on a journey, and inadvertently our stories all will connect… It’s up to us to learn from one another’s journeys, and to be there for one another, even as we part ways, we always will find eachother as we are heeding wtiches, honoring giants, minding wolf, hearing the ghosts, etc… We can all do this if eventually we realize that we’re never alone, though we might feel like it, especially in this business. 😉 I love to get to work with people on-set, there is a resume to back this up, and headshots, and every director interprets everything SO differently, so it’s always like doing a totally different show, and I know this would be AMAZING and I always have great energy to bring to set on production (that’s why I always hear from directors asking where I’ve ended up). i also have been a professional ballerina/ modern dancer/ studied theatre AND film in school on the University level, and always look younger than I am!

    I’m Fiona Fan, I’m 13 years old (born January 10, 2000), and around 5’4″. Or at least that’s what I think the symbols are. Also, in case it’s not obvious, I’m a girl. I’m Asian Canadian, I was born in Vancouver, Canada, and have lived in Vancouver, Bejing, and Toronto. I can speak fluent English, Mandarin-Chinese, and French, and I know Latin as well. Anyways, I think I should be considered to be a part of the casting call for Into The Woods for a few reasons. I’m not going to say that I think I’m definitely 100% the perfect person, since I’m sure that there are many other amazingly talented people. But, I think I would be a great person to be considered, because I have had some acting experience before.
    I’ve been in numerous school plays, to start with, and also, I was cast as MeiYing, the female lead, in The Karate Kid in 2010. I met up with the casting director, PoPing Auyeung, in Vancouver during spring break. We talked about the upcoming movie, and she came over to my house and videotaped my audition. After 2 months, she told me that it was decided for me to play MeiYing, except I was required to give up my Canadian passport and get a Chinese passport instead. My family and I decided that it would’ve been better to save my Canadian passport, so they had to find someone else.
    I really love acting, and although it’s a little embarrassing to admit, I always repeat lines that people in shows say in front of a mirror, just for fun. A few actors/actresses I admire are Adam Sandler, Lindsey Lohan, and Jonah Hill, and some of my favourite shows/movies are Pretty Little Liars, Modern Family, and 21 Jump Street. I also watch a lot of TSN, since I’m a professional figure skater.
    Last year, I placed third in the entire “state” of Ontario, and seventh at Nationals. So currently, I am seventh place in the whole country of Canada, competing against 200 people against female skaters ranging from 10-18 years old. I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging (well, now that I’m reading it again it kind of seems like I am) but figure skating is a huge accomplishment in my life, and I’m extremely proud of it.
    Next, I am a great student. In elementary school, getting good grades wasn’t THAT much of a big deal, but recently I’ve been pretty ecstatic to see my grades higher than the average student. To start of, I skipped a grade. The principal at my school then, York House School (ranked top 3 private girl school in Canada) told my mom that I should consider skipping a grade, as my class was too easy. I skipped a grade, and although I am a year younger than all my classmates, I still excel in my subjects. I have all A’s (90+), and now I will attend Crofton House School, which is the “best” all girl school in Canada. In fact, I’ll be starting there in 2 days! Although for my whole life, I have attended either a private school or an international one (basically public, but still classified as private, I think), I have watched way too many TV shows and movies to know what it’s like at a co-ed, non-uniform school.
    Finally, if I am asked to play a part as a certain person, I would have no problem in doing so. As I stated above, I’m frequently practicing lines, and repeating after actors/actresses while they’re acting. I’m able to act as many different people, while at the same time, knowing exactly who I am on the inside. That sounded really deep, but as you can probably see, or read, I sound really formal and sophisticated right now. Right? That was what I was attempting to go for. But I am different around my friends, around my parents, with my teachers, or with my brother. I always show myself to people I am with, although I may simply act a little different with different people. To be honest, I really don’t care if people judge me, because in the long run, what they’re judging me for isn’t going to affect my future (me being weird and too comfortable around strangers/acquaintances, for example). Anyways, I really tried to seem mature while writing this, even though I don’t think that worked really well. And I’m really proud of myself for not typing “lol” or “haha” at the end of every single sentence.
    To sum up, I just hope that I will at least be CONSIDERED to be a part of this casting call. I don’t want to seem conceited or extremely cocky, but what other people think about me is that I’m outgoing, funny, and friendly. Basically, I’m just out there, and sometimes that may be a bad thing. But I can speak many different languages, and I really hope that me being Asian won’t be an obstacle for my possible future roles. I am a figure skater, I have had experience with acting, and what really boosted my confidence was getting the role of MeiYing in The Karate Kid 3 years ago.
    Sorry if this is super long, I totally understand if you don’t think I would be a good part of Into The Woods, but I just hope that it isn’t because of my race, or where I live, as many people have told me it would be a barricade. I hope, with all my heart, that I’ll get a reply, but I know there’s a ginormous amount of people in America that have TONS of talent and potential!
