Mary nivensI am a 44 yr old single mom who has always wanted to take acting classes, and work in the movie/tv industry in some way. Unfortunately, I was raised in a small town in Ky where I never actually believed it was a possibility. The choices were work in a steel factory, or become a nurse. I worked in the steel factory and put myself through college to be a nurse. I was told in college by many professors that I should do something in communications, broadcasting, because I was very good at speaking in front of crowds. I never forgot that, and over the years of being mom, wife, and nurse, it’s always been in the back of my mind. Maybe someday. I relocated to California at the age of 32 to help start an open heart surgery program with a surgeon who had come to ky. I felt this night be my chance to also look into acting. Once I got the heart program going, I started looking at classes. However, I was married to an abusive man who made me feel silly for even thinking about it. “You are not the kind of person who can do that. You will fail, and I will leave you if you even try it”. I knew he was just being jealous but before I could get the courage up to leave him, I got pregnant with twins. So I ended up staying until they were 4, then finally divorced. Unfortunately one week after he left, my mother, who was going to come and help me, died. That was 5 yrs ago, and I’m just now feeling back to normal. My mother was my best friend. She always thought I should be an actress as well. So here I am, after 5 yrs of struggling with grief, and depression and raising 3 kids alone, finally reaching out to try and start somewhere towards at least saying I gave it a shot. My kids are all happy and healthy, and I am a much stronger person having survived so much in so little time. I chose to raise my kids in California to ensure that they would realize they could be anything they wanted. My main focus has been making sure they get to try everything, so they know what they love. I had given up completely on myself. But I’ve realized, I need to show them that you have to go after your dreams. Not just preach it. So, yea, I don’t even know if this site is real, but it’s a start. I would love to be considered for any type of part or extra just so I could at least experience it. Deep inside I think I would be successful.
