Nash StylesI had always thought the series, based on A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels by Martin, would be a little bit too, well, Lord of The Rings for me. I was wrong. With dozens of characters playing out the story in a handful of far-flung locations, Game of Thrones demands a certain level of patience and commitment from a viewer. And like another HBO classic, The Wire, Game of Thrones started very slowly, not really hitting its stride until the middle of the first season. (Indeed, showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss filmed a pilot that was so riddled with problems that it had to be almost entirely re-shot—at a cost of millions.) But power through those first four or five episodes, and make a concerted effort to remember which long-haired guy wearing armor is whose brother, and Game of Thrones will reward you abundantly with riches of the mind as glorious as the gold in a Lannister’s purse–oops sorry–Game of Thrones is worth your attention. If you’re into labels, call it a fantasy. Just like The Wire is just another cop show, or Deadwood is any old western. Here are five things to love about this show. It’s the encouragement I wish I’d had when I first tuned in, so it’s largely aimed at the newbie. As such it contains some general light spoilers, and a few well-marked, specific ones from the first few episodes, but nothing that would spoil your pleasure watching it for the first time. I would love to audition for this project as I have all the elements of the role in my reel life going on Drama, Action ,emotion, Mystery ,Love ,Compassion, Hatred at the moment It’s like the struggle for the Iron Throne and the seven kingdoms that come with it.
