The Little Mermaid - Movie

The Little Mermaid – Movie

Universal Pictures and Working Title Films are teaming up with acclaimed Academy Award winning director Sofia Coppola for an incredible new, live-action take on the all-time classic fairy tale The Little Mermaid. Hot on the heels of such recent adaptations as Maleficent, Alice In Wonderland and Snow White And The Huntsman, The Little Mermaid is set to bring the “under the sea” world to audiences around the world in a way that they have never imagined before and soon you could be a part of the magic. Bored with sea life, Ariel becomes increasingly curious about humans and one day comes upon a human prince named Eric. When Ariel saves Prince Eric from a

violent storm he becomes equally smitten with her and makes it his mission to find her wherever she may be. Desperate to join the human world, Ariel makes a deal with Ursula the sea witch – Ariel will give her her beautiful singing voice for three days and in exchange for turn her into a human for that time, if Ariel does not receive the kiss of love from the prince then  she will turn back into a mermaid and and belong to the witch.

This tale of true love and romance above land and below the sea is loved by millions and now the story will once again be coming to theaters everywhere. The Little Mermaid will be directed by Coppola (Lost In Translation, Somewhere, The Bling Ring) from a script by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Snow White: The Fairest of Them All) and will be produced by 3-time Oscar nominee Tim Bevan (Les Misérables, Nanny McPhee, Fargo) and 4-time Oscar nominee Eric Fellner (Frost/Nixon, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Love Actually).

This seems like an odd way to do things but worth a shot. Hi I’m devynn and I have been singing Disney music my whole life and I’m 24 and still sing it on my way home from work( or really whenever the people around me allow). Like the other 1000 people here I would love to be Ariel. I know that we could make this better that the original. (not that it wasn’t amazing!)

  4. Riley Jarol

My name is Riley, I’m 16 years old and I would love to be able to audition for The Little Mermaid. I’ve always been in love with Disney’s musicals. I don’t have much experience acting, but I have been in a few shows at my school. It would be a really cool opportunity to be apart of this production.

I personally haven’t casted in any movies before and thought that this would be a great starting opportunity.

  13. Michelle Tresaugue

I think this movie is timeless with its love story, notorious music, and loveable cast. Little Mermaid is enjoyable for all ages and with the right cast and crew, it would be amazing.

My name is Michelle, I am 16, 5’2, I’m a Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, and I have been in Musical Theatre since I was in middle school. I have short brown curly hair (nothing a wig can’t fix), hazel eyes, white, and I have a slim hourglass figure. I think being cast in Little Mermaid would be lots of fun and a great opportunity. I love singing, acting, and dancing, even though my singing is my stronghold. It would be a blessing to be cast in this movie!

  14. Shaylene

Hi! I may have already posted on this page a few months ago (I am not sure but the comments look familiar), and I would love to hear more about casting calls and opportunities involving the little mermaid. Personally, I have limited experience in acting other than in school and community theater as acting was never a major ambition of mine, more of a hobby. But when I realised all the Dinsey movies were being remade I decided that if I were ever going to try acting in movies, it needed to be this one. I have always felt I could relate to Ariel more than any other Disney princess (or character that I can think of) and would love the opportunity to try for the role. Any information I can get to do so would be absolutely amazing! Thank you!

  15. Cassidy Queens

I’m really not from this world. I don’t even know how to get an audition to these type of things, but what I do know and have is passion, the face, and the natural abilities one would need to be able to perform and cause instant response to the audience’s thoughts and feelings. Talent many in this profession have trained endlessly to obtain.

I want to give justice to Ariel or any other character given the opportunity to do so.
I won’t sit here and provide a what I believe to be a cookie cutter description of what I think the casting directors may want.

I simply want to work with those who are in charge in order to optimize teamwork and allow me to grant this vision everyone above is waiting to see.

I’m not perfect or professionally trained, but neither were these characters. They’re people (or cute sea creatures) with relatable personalities and so much emotional substance. That it really does take a special kind of person to be able to attune to these minor details. Especially to bring one’s character to life without the essence of a forced, or cartoon-like performance.

This is what mainly differentiates the good actors with the bad.

This is why I can compete with those who’ve had the opportunity to live their lives building their extended resumes.

I may not have the money, connections, or experienced to be noticed, but I do have my heart in the right place.

I just want to make the children and upcoming generations to feel the same way I felt when I first experienced the animated film when they watch this live action.

Thank you for your time and to many others who skimmed through this,

    Cassidy Queens

  16. Windy Scriven

My name is Windy Scriven. I think what I love most about the Little Mermaid is of course dealing with mermaids as I’m a huge Greek mythology fan, and of course as a kid, since I was born with red hair I felt like I could relate, seeing myself as Ariel wanting more, striving for what she wants and who she wants without being deterred with the fact she was a mermaid. I’d want to be a part of that. It’d be a childhood dream come true. Ironically, I actively cosplay Ariel, wishing I was Ariel. Hope to hear from you!

Every little girl dreams of being a princess, it’s almost like a right to growing up. For me I always wanted to be Ariel, ever since I was a little girl I would watch the little mermaid over and over again (driving my sister mad) and singing along to all the songs, I loved every minute of it. Even today I still watch it when I feel like I need some inspiration or cheering up, because I love the story of it. I love how Ariel is not afraid to venture into the unknown to find something that makes her happy and she never gives up. I feel like I am like Ariel in that manner, I will never give up even if a few barriers fall into place I will keep shoving until they move. To become Ariel for the film would be a dream come true especially as I know what joy I would bring as the character to other children. I am from England, but am currently in Spain, I have hazel eyes and blonde shoulder length hair, I am 5”7 last time I measured myself! And have an hourglass figure, I have just turned twenty but people think I’m younger as they say I have an innocent face. I took performing arts in college which included acting, singing and dancing which I loved thoroughly and feel comfortable in water, when I was younger my auntie used to call me her little mermaid because I was always in the swimming pool!

  20. Angel McIntyre

Try a new timeless face and soul to represent the mystery and magical moments Disney has granted to the world. Use a live action face and a voice never heard or seen. Show the grown and growing fans of Disney’s classics that they can still escape into the time of the film’s and experience the journey through the eyes of the most mysterious and magical kind if living! Under the sea!!! Use a hidden pearl beneath the depths of the ocean that once opened and discovered, will shine and bring to the Hollywood version if Disney the world literally has never seen before!! Hi, my name is Becky, I am twenty years old and have blonde shoulder length hair, I am 5”6 last time I measured and have a slight hourglass figure. Ever since I was little I would always watch the little mermaid and sing along at the top of my voice, I felt like it was the most perfect film ever. When I was younger I would constantly be in the swimming pool and pretending to be Ariel so much that my Auntie would call me her little mermaid. To this day I still watch the little mermaid whenever I feel like I need inspiration or cheering up and would love to be apart of this film. It would be a dream come true!

  22. Georgia Worrall

Hi my name is Georgia Worrall and, like many others girls, it has been my dream to be Ariel (or at the very least, a mermaid). I am 17 years old (18 in January) and live in a town called warrington in the UK. I think I’d be perfect for the role as I have a curiosity for finding new things whether it be a physical object or a piece of information about other cultures. I have done many stage performances and I feel like I am more confident when acting because I try hard to impress people with how well I can play a character that may be completely different to myself. I can do many accents, which I usually do to make my friends laugh, and American is one of them. I am Caucasian with green eyes and brown hair (obviously I would be willing to dye my hair red) and I am 5”7. I love to play characters, even in everyday life to see people’s reactions because I think it’s funny. I find that the quirky and bubbly personality that Ariel has is the character that is perceived best. I also have a Disney princess singing voice having done many talent shows solo or in a choir. Overall, I know I’d work so hard to play this role to the best of my ability and I know that 7 year old me would be screaming with excitement at the thought of being her idol.

  23. Jerimy Spencer

My name is Jerimy Spencer. My first crush was the little mermaid as a child, but it didn’t work out with her being an animated girl (well, half girl anyway). I have had experience in theatre ranging from different works by Shakespeare to an Irish play by Brendan Behan (Borstal Boys). I have a degree in arts and humanities which included a course on film and arts, a minor in music as well as a master’s in intercultural studies. I am a multi-instrumental musician and per example can play traditional Irish and Scottish music on the low whistle and irish whistle, and a composer. I love myths and fairy tales and would love the opportunity to audition for a supporting role where I might make a good fit. Thank you for your time and consideration.

    grace and peace,

  26. Hannah Noll

Hi there! My name is Hannah Noll, and I’m 15 years old (but I can easily pass as older), and I would be so honored to be considered for a role in this movie! I grew up watching Disney classics, some of my favorites being The Little Mermaid, the Lion King, and so many more! From as early as I could talk, I was singing and putting on shows for my family, and as I grew up, I embraced my passion of musical theatre and have been in numerous productions! Some of these productions include The Lion King Jr. (Rafiki) and Legally Blonde (Margot). I have also had experience in choirs, both community-based and semi-professional. On top of that, I have won several awards for voice, including awards through the Illinois District Choir and the Kiwanis Music Festival, and I have been accepted to and attended a extremely selective musical theatre two-week intensive through the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. I am 5″3, a size small in women’s clothing, a fast learned and good swimmer, and I have hazel eyes, pale skin, thick auburn hair, and a mezzo soprano/alto range. When it comes to this show, I have honestly always had the dream of playing Ariel in any production, whether it’s film, stage, or anywhere in between, and it would mean the world to me if I had the chance to possibly make that dream come true. One of the reasons it is a dream role for me is because I always personally related to Ariel’s whimsicality, playfulness, and EXTREME curiosity, and I mean that literally. I was always so fascinated and curious about the most random of things, as Ariel is as well, and have always had the biggest dreams in life, which is yet another trait I am proud to say I share with Ariel. Overall, I would just love to have the opportunity to bring a new spin to this wonderful character, and I would like to sincerely thank you for your time and consideration!

heya my name is jaslynn. I have brown curly hair blueish, green eyes skinny and 62 inches. I have little experience with acting in big movies or tv shows. I’m not asking for a big part just a background character like Ariel’s sister or a maid from the castle. I love the movie Ariel, when I was younger me and my sister would watch the movie three times a day and always dreamed of being a mermaid! The day might finally come if I could get the chance to get the part. Xoxo

  39. Cordelia Rouffy

    Casting Info for Cordelia Rouffy

    Hair: Red-ish light Brown
    Eyes: Green-Blue
    Ethnicity: Caucasian
Age: 14 but look much older and I will be older for movie
    Height: 5’7
weight: like 120 or something like that

  40. Cordelia Rouffy

My name is Cordelia and man this would be the opportunity of a lifetime. Since I could remember I loved The Little Mermaid and always wanted to Ariel (Ariel was always my favorite princess). I am an actress who has been acting and singing since I was 3 years old (I am 14 years old now but I am 5’7, look a lot older than I am (like 16/17), and I would be older for when anything would actually start happening). I had red hair when I was a child but sadly it naturally faded to a red/brown, I would assume that Ariel would be wearing a red wig though. I have across the nose and cheek but as some of the other people have said, I think Ariel would also have some freckles. I am very good at the cute (no teeth) smile that Ariel does and I think I look cute doing it :). My eyes are green-blue and I sing soprano and can sing all genres of music. I am a pretty good swimmer not only with legs, but also with a tail. I got my first mermaid tail at the age of 12 I believe and no one could keep me out of the water. I never used silicon tails, but I still am very good at swimming in tails. I would be so proud If I could be Ariel, but I know it’s like a 0.00001% chance. I look like her, sound like her, act like her a lot, and always wanted to be her. I would love to audition to be her but have absolutely no idea how that is possible, so if anyone has any information regarding auditions for when it is possible, I would very much like to know. I would love to be apart of the little mermaid movie and I/ my family would be so grateful. The Little Mermaid live action remake has to be as good/better than the first one, and I like to think I would make it awesome!

  42. Gregory Walerski

    Greetings,

My names Greg Walerski from new york state. I’m twenty years of age and would be ecstatic to be considered for the role of Ursula. I’m a drag queen, and considering the character of Ursula has obvious inspirations drawn from Divine the famous drag queen of many John Waters films, It would be the perfect opportunity to have a drag queen play her. I am two years deep in a bachelors of music and i have been Involved heavily in music for twelve years. Because of this i have a well trained voice ready for any musical demands the role may call for. Pertaining to my connection with Ursula, She was always my favorite character from Little Mermaid. Her strange beauty, strong sexuality, and cunning wit always vibed with me. As i grew up i found more and more similarities between Ursula and I. I began diving into the world of drag to feed my eccentric nature and found myself falling even deeper in love with the character. When i was in high school, My school performed, The Little Mermaid The Musical. I worked production crew instead of being part of the cast due to scheduling problems at the time but every time Ursula was on stage you would find me acting the full part and lip syncing the lines and songs. anyone that saw me told me i should’ve auditioned for the part because i was a perfect match and i wish i could’ve at the time. This would mean the world and beyond for me and to bring justice to a character that helped shape my life, and would be an unexplainable honor and privlidge.

    Thank you for your consideration

  43. Julia Sopinska

Hi, my name’s Julia and I’m fifteen years old. I live in Northern Ireland but I’m originally from Poland. Many of my family members and friends tell me how much I should audition for an actual production which will allow me to express my hobbies; swimming and singing. I’ve been told many times that my swimming is outstanding. I have been in several plays, both in school and outside of school. In these plays I could use my talent of singing. I joined the school and church choir when I was only 7 years old, so I have a bit of an experience of what you’re looking for. The Little Mermaid has always been my all time favorite Disney movie, so it would be an absolute honour to take the role of Ariel. I belI’ve that I’d be perfect of the role as I can relate to her in so many ways; I’m very adventurous, curious, I’m sometimes misunderstood by my parents and I face many challenges in my life. I love Disney and I love the Ltitle Mermaid. Thank you♡

  44. Marea Mammano

Hello! My name is Marea Mammano, I am 20 years old, but I look younger.
I am a singer and actress and I was born in Italy, in front of the sea, but I actually live in Paris because I work as a Character Performer at Disneyland Paris.
I studied Musical Theatre for 4 years (in which I also had the main role of princess Rapunzel) and I have been part of an experimental theatre company for 3 years. After moving to Paris I auditioned at the Conservatory of Paris and I am studying there since I arrived, singing is my main passion and being part of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” live action is my biggest dream since I was a little girl.
I am a soprano with a whistle register.
“Part of your world” is my jam, so I often use it for auditions, it really moves me.
My character type would be the naive, ingenue girl that overcomes all her problems with strength and courage (that simply represents me in real life), but I love experimenting with different possibilities of characters.
My body type is very similar to Ariel’s one, and I am generally very tiny.
I have wavy hair, big hazel eyes and a heart-shaped mouth.
The main reason why I think I am perfect for the role of Ariel is that I have the same personality she has! I am curious and selfless, I would do anything to help the people I love, I am stubborn and I like making my own choices; I am a free soul but I also love having some people in my life I can always count on.
I love travelling and getting to know different people and traditions, I always want to explore new countries and learn everything I can about them.
As a philanthropist, I am active in feminist and antiracist campaigns (and I am pretty sure that, if Ariel lived on earth at this time, she would have done it, too!), I think that sometimes you can’t just stand in a corner waiting for problems to fix themselves, you have to fight to validate yours and other people’s rights as human beings.
Everyone deserves to feel welcomed and belonging in this world.
A place that really makes me feel like I’m home is the sea. I basically grew up on the seashore and every time I was sad or upset I used to sit on the sand and watch the sea, its vastity and the sound of its waves made me realize that I was not alone and that at the other side of the sea there surely were people struggling like me who just waited to find someone to rely on; even now, in Paris, I use to listen to the sounds of the sea before I go to bed;I have always felt connected to the sea and oceans and I think the fact that my name means “tide” in Italian is not a coincidence.
Water really is my element and swimming is one of the activities I love more, as a little girl I pretended I had a mermaid tail and I used to swim as a mermaid; sometimes when I am underwater, I use to look at the surface and I get moved by the beauty of the rays of sun getting through the water. It is my place in the world, under the sea is where I belong, but I can’t wait to explore every inch of mainland I can!
Since I was a little girl, watching the movie (which I now know by heart), I used to think I was Ariel and that the story simply was about me, I used to sing or harmonize with Ariel, participating at her astonishing character development, and once on the seashore I used to talk with Ursula trying to protect the sea by the sea witch, what a funny girl I was!
I grew up and realized that there is no sea which, but I still believe that sea is a magical place and that there are people who really are mermaids by heart, and one of them is me.
Having the possibility to simply audition for the role of Ariel would be the best experience of my life, I am sure!
    Thank you for reading this,
    Marea

  45. Kassidy Gerome

I have dreamed of a live version of the little mermaid since I first saw the movie when i was just two years old. Being an actress has been my dream since that age as well, it hasn’t been my source of light and comfort, and Disney been most my escape from the hardships of reality in my times of tribulation. I love everything about this movie, and how much i can relate to it. I’ve always been to curious, to carefree to worry about others, and anxious to find more in the world. My dream is to inspire others as much as Disney has inspired me. If i could be Ariel to another little girl who dreams of more that would be so fulfilling. If i could even have to chance to be considered to live out my favorite princess’ role, id be truly honored.
Thank you and i look forward to this project and hearing from you!
    Much love,
    Kassidy

  47. Meera Forespring

Greetings! Well, I’m that was a little forward of me…um…anyway my name is Meera Forespring. I turn fifteen in a week but people usually mistake me for being around sixteen. I am multi-racial but I do have fairly light skin. I have brown eyes and dark brown curly hair that is just a little longer than my chin (it’s shoulder length when straight). I of course am completely comfortable with wearing colored contacts and wigs because cosplay is one of my many hobbies. I am around 5 feet and 3-4 inches. I have years of acting experience and have been in multiple musicals. I have been swimming since I was born (swimming lessons, swim teams, and lifeguard training)and can hold my breath for far longer than average ( 2 minutes on average but my longest is 3 minutes and 4 seconds) if that helps in any way. Ariel has always been a major interest of mine. I’ve been obsessed with mermaids before I even knew the proper terminology for them (I called them “fishy legs”). My mother has always been confused with my curiosity with the sea. I once asked her for my third birthday if we could go explore a sunken pirate ship. Of course she said no, which was a little said but completely understandable. I’ve always been awestruck with some of the interesting things that we have just lying around. How they work what their names are. So naturally the first time I saw the movie the little mermaid I felt like I was almost seeing myself. Ariel inspired me to pursue many of my passions such as acting, singing, art, and swimming ( to name only a few). She did make me try to brush my hair with a fork which lead to disaster because it is extremely curly. A big way that Ariel impacted me was my first choir solo. I had raised my hand to preform the solo during tryouts thinking that I wouldn’t actually be picked. The next thing I knew I was being shoved up to a microphone and told to sing ‘part of that world’ infront of my choir class. I was terrified but I sang even though my voice was shaking and I was desperately holding back tears. After the song ended and I looked out at my class I almost fainted when a girl shouted “HOW THE HECK DO YOU SOUND LIKE ARIEL?!” I was even more shocked when my Choir instructor told me that she wanted me to practice the solo every day infront of the class to get over my stage fright. After a few months I grew comfortable singing infront of people and was given the nick name ‘the little mermaid’. I got to preform my dream solo because of how much Ariel inspired me to go after my hopes no matter how scared I was, or how hard it would be. It would be an honor to even be considered to be Ariel and I am ecstatic to how magical Disney will make this live action adaptation. If there are any questions that go deeper into my experience please feel free to email me and I will respond quickly and amicably. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I’ve been in choir for 9 years now and just this past fall, played Ariel in a show we put on called The Royal Tea, where kids can come watch us in character, eat, listen to us perform, and take pictures. 51. Madilynne Garlick

My name is Madilynne, I’m going to be fourteen in August. I am 5 ft 1′ and live in Gilbert, AZ. I wear a size small in women, I have blue eyes, some freckles, and dirty blond hair two or three inches past my shoulders. I am a very good dancer and swimmer, but I am not the best at singing, although I could give it a shot. I also play the piano and violin. I think that this would be so fun to act in this movie! The things that people love most about me is my attitude towards things, and my smile and laugh. Although I have no background experience in acting, I would like to have a shot at it. I love to act and I would love to be a part of this. Thank you so much!

  52. Leigh

Ursula is the role to desire! The bold presence, the ability to trick the young mermaid princess (Ariel) into leaving her family and friends for a man she won’t be able to speak to… Spectacular!

  53. Brittany Wilson

Hello, my name is Brittany, I am going to be sixteen in July. I live in Colorado, originally from Texas. I’ve always been told and find I agree I share many of Ariel’s personality traits; such as wild curiosity, quirkiness and adventurous look at things. I am 5ft 2′ and half last I checked and I’m a size small in women somewhat of an hourglass shape, I’m caucasian. I have brown eyes, few freckles. I also have deep red hair. I do have a memorial tattoo on the back of my left shoulder, that if needed I can conceal. I know the freckles might not be in favor but I personally believe that a real-life Ariel would have freckles from going up to the surface and watching boats or talking to our favorite bird Scuttle the seagull. And I believe girls and children, in general, should be shown it’s okay to have freckles or none at all. But I do believe children should be shown that heart and kindness are what’s most important. I have experience in cosplaying, acting, concert choir/singing, and tech crew. I’m a quick learner and good swimmer. I’m fully open to playing an extra or one of the sisters, as long as I can be helpful I hope I’ll be a consideration. And I hope I can have a shot at sharing joy with the world like Disney has with me and my family. Thank you.
