Special Victims Unit). The fabulously talented Nate Parker (Beyond the Lights, Red Hook Summer, The Great Debaters) will direct the film from his own script and take on the lead role of Nat Turner. Mogul extraordinaire David S. Goyer (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight, Blade) will lead a fabulous and driven group of producers that includes Kevin Turen, Aaron L. This is such an incredible story because it’s talking about history. In light of what’s going on right now, it could change the outlook of people’s thoughts on certain things. These are some of the best story lines and they always seem to have some sort of emotional impact and a lot of movies like this end up with some sort of award. I’d like to be apart of this film because I want to be apart of something that’s going to make a difference. I want to make change in this world. And I know this will make a difference. 8. Vivian Vega

I am a Hispanic woman with a blend of many races and a rich cultural background, who is very enthusiastic and energetic. Acting has been my dream since I was a little girl and I want to give myself a chance before it’s too late. Love “The Birth of a Nation” because it continues to drive the strong message of cultural and racial diversity. I was born in Puerto Rico, but grew up in New England. I have a mix of Black, White, and Native Taino Indian in me. I sang in a choir for many years, growing up as a Baptist, and take pride in my heritage and in who I am. Being a part of this movie will give me a chance to speak to the world about it’s powerful message with my heart in the form of art, which is acting.

I am not an actor but have a natural southern accent and can take the heat and the critters commonly found in the south. I can be rough around the edges or a gentleman when needed too. If you need a middle-aged, bald-headed (shaved), 200lb, white guy to fill in some background scenes I will appreciate the consideration.

    Thank you!

My name is Samise Lee and I think that the future it appears we about to face in need of a wake up call through a movie such as this. I believe the history of slavery may be trying to repeat itself and this movie is a subliminal reminder that our nation will not succumb to such an event.

  20. Catherine Jefferson

    To Whom It May Concern,
The story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad was always my favorite history lesson during Black History month in elementary school. The way in which she was able to lead and guide thousands of Blacks to their freedom to the North was amazing. Growing up and currently living in the South (southern Louisiana), I understand the hardships of being black because I live it everyday. Also, having a grandmother that worked as a housemaid and a grandfather who worked the plantation field gave me much insight from their lives as children born into harsh times. I would love to be apart of this movie because, in a sense, I feels as though it would honor my previous generations to be able to portray a small portion of their stories.
Thank you for reading and your consideration,
    Catherine

I feel that birth of a nation will be a great movie, it will inform young African American children (such as my self) about things that happened not so long ago. if a get a chance to be apart of this movie you will be able to see my drive, and my soul threw my acting. being able to be an actress in this movie would be a blessing.

  25. Betty

I could say that I believe in the history of our country and that this would be a purposeful project or to see another true piece of artwork about the Black/African American struggle/challenges and achievements would be fantastic! And this would all be true but my primary reason for wanting to try out is because I am good at what I believe. Yes, I am good since a very young age; acting, singing, learning to perform has been my hearts desire–now for over 50 years; matters not that my family has never believed, the so called friends and associates don’t support unless they are using me for my gift to “sing or speak somewhere for them”. I am tired and am finally going to pursue this much-desired part of my life. With a Contralto voice that has been laughed at and criticized for many years; I am doing it! Trying out. Anyeay!

  26. Marcus J. McCreary

  29. Deri Abner

I’m a 14 year old girl, born and definitely still being raised in Orlando Florida. I have always wanted to be a actress and Gabrielle Union is one of my role models. So being in a film with her would be a dream come true . I have no experience, besides being in Barbizon and learning about the craft of acting and doing skits that I got a lot of praise for doing great in them. Also it would be a huge honor to play in the movie “The birth of a nation” , to be able to portray something so significant to our country would be iconic for me and for everyone world wide. Acting isn’t just acting for me, it’s a passion you have to have and getting up in front of a camera playing someone else is the hardest thing you can do. For me acting isn’t hard it’s second nature, because your not really playing someone else your not changing nothing but the situation your currently in,and putting yourself in that situation showing the emotions, movement, and mindset you would have in that specific situation. So being apart of a project such as “The Birth of a Nation” would not only be a honor but would make me feel as if I’ve spoken to the world in the way my character or I would in that time . Furthermore, I’m certain that this film will impact nations in a way that they need to be.

    Age:23
    Gender: Male
    Height: 5’10
    Eye color: Brown
    Hair: Dark Brown
    Weight : 140 lbs

I’m an actor. Its not what i do, its who i am. I love becoming someone else on stage. Kicking off one personality like most people do with a pair of shoes, and changing my very self to become someone else.

I traveled with the “Walking Monk” aka Bhakti Marg Swami and was an actor for his non profit acting group performing Lonely People among other plays and traveling all over North America.

I have always wanted to be an actor on the screen since i was five. Lots of theater experience but so far no “screen time” Perhaps i could help this show to be more than anyone could hope for? I will if you let me. Perhaps you could be credited with my discovery?

  33. Devin J. Baker I

Many stories have to be told a certain way whereas other stories tell themselves. Flexibility is a grand necessity for the perfect execution of a story that tells itself. Within this year 2015, racism has protruded its way into the media more than ever, considering multiple surveillance videos released of Black Americans and other minorities murdered, harassed, beaten while defenseless and humiliated. It takes self discipline to be an actor but it also takes flexibility as a professional to be open minded when portraying the vision of the director while on set. This story of Nat Turner is one that will tell itself only when intellectuals, artists, people with vision, idealist and realistic thinkers come together to combine the present emotion to be inserted in the past moments of the Nat Turner era. I’m 5”6, 23, Black with college level acting experience (which my skill is certainly not limited to such experience), short curl black hair and a clean shave.

  34. LEXI

THE BIRTH OF A NATION is a classic. I would love to be a part of it. I can draw off of being a reserved parochial school kid teased for having to where saddle oxford shoes & a uniform, the girlfriend of the quarterback in high school, a member of a social club that hosted many dances, a military soldier, a wife of an abusive soldier, a teacher, an hospital worker (an x-ray technician), a step mother of 2 sons, a professional college student, and now a mother of 2 sons and a daughter. I’ve played some of those roles in college. I’d love to be a part of this project. I can be Gabrielles’ sister, cousin, friend, or any of the above. I’m only 111 pounds, but I’ve played a fat lady that sings, the mother of teenagers, the brave but scared Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween One. I’m here in California whenever you need me.—LEXI

Slavery, to most, is something you read about in textbooks. That is why movies like these are so powerful. Because they opens the eyes of everyone, to show how slavery not only shaped our past but if we do not learn from it we cannot be an adversary against it. I cannot say that I understand or have gone through slavery but I would like to be a part of “The Birth of a Nation” because it’s a step toward learning and educating.

  39. Herman Grim

I think the movie The Birth of a Nation would be great,. Thw generations of today qill get the chance to see a great movie about slavery and what took plase.

I grow up in the South and know something’s about slavery and what my grandmother told me.
I would like to be included in the casting because I feel that I can contribute to the cause.
I attended Alabama State University, I know what it like to march in the streets, seeing how people react, and attend a black university in Montgomery, Alabama I really got a first hand look at what black went through during the slavery years.
Being apart of The Birth of a Nation would be a dream come true.
