It is all i do. It even saved my life. I am diagnosed with depression and severe anxiety. For a while, I hated my self. I started an addiction with self harm and even tried to end my life. While i was trying to recover, I used music. I would sing and play guitar and ukulele. I always use that as a coping skill now because nothing makes me feel better then when i play an instrument and sing away. I have wanted to be a singer my whole life. I want to sing and be a role model to other people who are going through the things i go through and really just anyone who is dealing with something. I want to be a musician that gives people hope. I have done alot in the last 8 years but the one show that stands out the most was 5 years ago when i was 13. I entered a singing competion hosted by David Foster himself and he picked me to sing with him on stage while he accompanied me on piano. that was a thrill of a lifetime. being that this buisness is so diffucult I think back on that oppurtunity and it always encourages me. I am from Kansas City, Missouri – home of the BEST barbeque in the United States 🙂 I am 24 years old, a mother of one AWESOME little munchkin and a pharmacy student and worker. If given the chance to audition for “The Star Next Door” I would prove to be one FIERCE competitor. I have been singing and writing my own music for quite sometime. My first performance of an original piece was in….kindergarten. I think it had to do something with a jungle and a lonely moth, HAHAHA. I sang it in front of my whole music class. As I got older, I got a little more self conscience and started singing behind closed doors. My dreams of singing and writing music was quieted by my insecurities and discouraging child and teen years. That is until an awesome karaoke night on a cruise ship last summer! The response I got from the crowd lit a fire in my heart that has been stifled for some time and I realized my life experience will only make me grow as a singer and a person. Since last summer I have taken my life by the horns and been performing every chance I get. My daughter LOVES it and knows every song I sing by heart. Adorable, I love to watch her grow into this amazing little person. I also received a vocal scholarship from my school, which is funny because I am a science major, but more about that later 😉 and have built quite the little hometown fan club, the biggest fans being my mom and my baby :-D. I am very pleased to know that I do in fact sing like rock star! Although I lean towards more soulful and bluesy music, I consider myself to be pretty darn versatile and able to sing most genres. I sing with power and have a pretty impressive vocal range. Some of my favorite artists to perform are Etta James, Nina Simone, Heart and Emeli Sande. If you give me the chance, I assure you I will not disappoint. It took me a long time to get my confidence and I would be more grateful than you could ever know if given the chance to make my life long dream come true. Singing is in my heart and soul, its not just something I do, it’s who I am. Cliché I know but it expresses what I am feeling. He went all the way through to the finals but did not win. He was asked to do a spot at another casino variety show. Everyone loved him and was very impressed.
