The series is currently wrapping up it’s acclaimed first season and an all new second season has just been ordered. Auditions will be held soon for the first half of season two which will begin broadcasting this summer.

Switched At Birth centers on two teenage girls from opposite sides of the tracks. Vanessa Marano plays Bay Kennish, a girl from a wealthy family with two loving parents and a brother while Katie Leclerc plays Daphne Vasquez, rendered deaf from a bout with meningitis at an early age who lives with her single mother in a poor neighborhood. The girls come to find out that they were switched at birth in the hospital as infants and that each has been living the others life. The drama and emotion is on full tilt as the two families meet and try to establish a relationship for the well being of the girls. This the most fantastically original and well acted program on TV with solid supporting cast that includes the fabulous talents of Lea Thompson (Back To The Future) and Constance Marie (George Lopez)! I’m almost 25, but I get that I’m always a teenager in high school; sometimes that is a problem for me. I’ve been homeschooled all my life and never have had many opportunities to try out my hidden talents.
I’ve watched Switched at Birth since the beginning and know many of the actors from previous shows and movies. The series is an eclectic array of people in all kinds characters. Their strengths are what show through, and they are real and dealing with themselves and their personal decisions. What makes Switched at Birth so addictive are not just the actors, but the real life situations the characters are put through. It also brings awareness to many disabled minorities that aren’t thought about everyday. This is what makes this show so special.
I don’t know what could totally make me a candidate to be on the show, but one thing is I’ve always loved have been oldies and all decades of music, the movies and classic tv shows. This series is the only show I watched besides Dallas, Dancing with the Stars, Castle, Melissa and Joey, and Baby Daddy. Can’t wait for the summer openers of my favorite shows!!!
Thank you ABC FAMILY for making wholesome shows that are so hard to find these days.

I’m an actor who graduated from the Master of Arts, Filmmaking course at the Northern Film School, specialising in screen acting. I have almost 15 years acting experience and has also worked with media and production. During that time I worked on stage across the UK.
I was born deaf and in July 2012 I had a cochlear implant. A short documentary film, ‘Make Me Louder’, was produced at the Northern Film School. This followed my journey from starting university to his decision to have a cochlear implant.

My ultimate dream that ‘Switched At Birth’ having a british deaf actor, which is a ground breaking career to start from but this will help to remove the barriers towards the UK television drama.

  10. Sarah

Hello! I am a deaf 29 year old female that’s born deaf, who has a 3 year old son. I grew up acting, and dancing. I can speak and lip-read really well. (Like daphne) I went to mssd (model secondary school for the deaf) and did all kinds of acting roles there the entire 4 years and graduated. Then went to Gallaudet and it has been an amazing experience! I am a energy, dedicated, open-minded, and funny actress you would like to have on SAB! What I learned about being a actress is, learn to understand what role you have to act. That’s what being a true actress means. Everyone says I have this spark where I am happy on stage, or front if the camera, like I own the role. Which is true! My talents in acting, I can be anyone you want me to be. Acting is where is my zone I can be happy and not stressed! My strength is memorizing scripts, it’s fun to do. I love people, so I get along with anyone. I hope to hear from you, and is interested to hear about who I am.

    Sincerely
    Sarah Hall

At the age of 13 I went to high school in New Zealand, with 13 years old I had to learn to take responsibilities and to accomplish. Therefore my English is like my second language. 16. Samantha

    Hi,
    I love the show.
I know American Sign Language and can sign fluently. I am immersed in the culture of Deafness. I have never acted before on Tv, but you would not regret giving me an opportunity . I want to be an example to my and the future generations that you can do anything you put your mind, heart, soul in too. I have a passion and high energy for the Deaf culture. Just being involved on the set somehow would be an honor. I think an actress on the show being immersed into the Deaf culture is extremely important due to this show being surrounded by that. The Deaf community would want to see the people associated with this show involved on and off set in their world. I thank you just for reading this., and I hope you email me.

  21. Hektor Lemus

    Hello,
My name is Hector Lemus but I like to write my name with a “k” because it makes me feel different from everyone else. I am 18 years old, Mexican-American. I know english, spanish, and the basics of sing-language. Switched at Birth has made me realize how deaf people suffer and it really opened my eyes. For me sing-language is a talent that is used every day and requires body movement and passion to do so. That’s what I like about Switched at Birth because it gives a sense as everyone is different in their own way and its ok to be different. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read this.
    Thank you,
    Hektor Lemus

  22. Annie Kvamme

My name is Annie Kvamme and I live in Washington, U.S.A. I am thirteen years old but sometimes I’m mistaken to be 15 or 16. I am deaf, talented in dancing, reading, and writing. I can communicate by reading lips, speaking, or sign language. I want to become an actress and be able to really make a difference in my life. I’d really appreciate you emailing me. I’ve been complimented many times for being so expressive and a very good actor. I have great memory and would really like you to consider me. Thank you.

  24. Rachael Rodriguez

Hello hello! My name is Rachael Rodriguez.
I’m 5’4″ and petite, golden/dark eyes, dark hair that’s naturally curly but looks fine either way, and strong features (long neck, high cheek bones, strong jaw, prominent collar bones, and full lips). American Indian/irish
Date of birth 11/23/1990 (23 years old)Celebrity look alike: Sandra Bullock
I have a strong personality and when it comes to acting I’m very moldable. Any part I guarantee I could act it the way, if not close to what you’re looking to achieve.I deal with criticism well, in fact I’m thankful for it because without it is when one gets comfortable and starts to slack, or just never betters themselves. My goal is to work my tail off to be what’s needed and portray the character best to my ability. I have a wonderful memory.

I was in plays growing up in school, and also in my church so I’m not exactly a beginner.
You need a serious part? I’ve got it covered.
You need a goof? Here’s your girl!
You need a tear jerker? Here’s the tissues, get ready!Haha

I do know the basics of asl. I would be able to learn very fast knowing that I can already structure the basic sentences and vocabulary.
I’m good at playing the sweet soft girl, or a strong independent woman.I’m from the Detroit Michigan area.
I’m not looking to become a huge Hollywood star.
I just want to entertain people and do what I enjoy while making others happy. But if Hollywood calls my name how could I deny?! Simplicity.
    Thank you!
    Don’t be shy with questions!
    -Rachael.

  27. Ariana/Pheonix

Hello, my name is Ariana, but I go by Pheonix, because of my love, or what some would call obsession, with the mystical/magical bird. It’s spelled differently however because of a typo that, to put frankly, I was too lazy to correct 😀
I turned 18 a little over a week ago (February 14, 2014). I’m from a little town in Connecticut, well not exactly little but, not exactly large, and have been told constantly from a young age to pull my head from the clouds and start thinking of a real career. For as long as I could remember I knew performing would always be in my future. Although, to please my mother I’d have a back up plan.
I always loved performing but I didn’t realize the passion I held for it until I was in middle school. I had turned 11 and had decided to audition for my school’s talent show as a singer covering Taylor Swift’s ‘Our Song.’
I had managed to secure a spot on and was all set to perform. Come the day of the show, the teacher’s in charge had told me I would not be performing because they did not want me to embarrass myself.
Rather than let that get me down all my life, I decided to use the experience as something to drive me to success.
I am now a newly graduated high school student and have done several things I am both proud, and ashamed of.
I am proud that I’ve moved past the whole 6th grade talent show fiasco, yet also ashamed that for a brief time, I did let it have me question everything I had seen for my future. In high school (which I finished 3 weeks ago), I joined my high school’s drama club. For three years I was part of something that accepted my flaws, my quirkiness, my shyness and my flare for performing. Coming out of high school I can proudly say I was co-president of the Drama Club, an actor, play-writer, director, techie, and friend.
The Drama Club helped me re-realize my passion for performing.
Many of my fellow members, which are still in fact in high school, have told me to, in other words, “Kill those haters with kindness, and success.”Which, even before they told me that, I had planned on doing. Although, that does make it sound like I only want to perform to prove all those who said I couldn’t, wrong. But that is in no way the case. I truly do love performing. I love the butterflies it gives me, the adrenaline the crowd gives me and the burst of pride I feel when a show has gone smoothly and the curtain either opens or drops.
Like I said, my name is Ariana, but I go by Pheonix, wrongly spelled due to a typo I, and my loved ones were too lazy to ever bother to fix.
I am 18, and a newly graduated high school students looking to make her mark in the world.
I am 5’6 have brown eyes and brown/ombre effect brown hair that comes to just below my chest.
I love acting, singing, baseball/softball(which I’ve played for 6 years now), music and food.
I’m a bit of a perfectionist and give everything my all.
I can’t promise you I’ll be perfect, but I can promise you I will try my very best to reach perfection.
If you give me a chance, by giving me the info to this or any other auditions that are open in the New England area, I can promise you I will do my best so you don’t regret it.

  39. Azereael Reinhardt

When I was younger I had a deaf friend and started to learn to sign so I could tell her about my day and listen to hers. My friend passed away at 16 years of age, several years ago. Recently my nine year old and I were wanting to find something special we could share just between us and found a show called “Signing Time” on netflix and he was hooked. We watch an episode a day and when we found the show “Switched at Birth” we started watching together. It’s now our secret language between us and has become a very special thing for the two of us. When you have eight children, finding that special bond is not always easy, but ASL has given us that. I’m an author and an actress so I haven’t had a whole lot of time at home with work but we make time for this. When I was told about your casting call I knew I had to get involved. When something like this is more than just a good show but something that is educational, a way to reach out and build a bridge between the hearing and the hearing impaired, when it touches your life and changes it, you want to get involved and be a part of it. I can’t say I’m “that” actress but I can tell you I’m “that” passionate. I love acting, it’s part of my heart. To be able to combine telling a story that actually makes a difference with something that is so personal and special in my own life would be a blessing. Whether you consider me or not you should know you’ve changed lives and I’d like to be a part of that. Thank you for the opportunity.

  40. Cvetelina Nedkova

🙂 i would like to be part of this show 🙂 i am 14 and i don’t have a lot of experience i mean i have but no one is giving me a chance so if something comes up just write to me on my email please :))

  41. Caitlyn Miller

Hello my name is Caitlyn Miller. I am 20 years old and from Waverly, Ohio. I have been involved in drama and theatre my entire life. I am currently studying American Sign Language Interpreting. As I continue to get my college education I have begun to evaluate my life and what I really want to do. I have fallen in love with signing but my number one passion is acting. What better way to combine both passiod then auditioning for an axing show. I have been mostly involved in musical theatre but excelled in acting. When I was 13 I auditioned for a role in a small Indie film directed by a local director in Portsmouth, Ohio. After auditioning I was called by the director himself. He was very encouraging and told me I was amazing but to young to the role he was searching for. I was upset but learned from my audition and have grown so much as an actress. I am from a small town and not given many oppertunities to audition as much as others. All I ask is for the opportunity to show you my talent. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Email me for more information if you are interested. Thank you.

  42. Caitlyn Miller

Hi my name is Caitlyn Miller. I am 20 years old and from Waverly, Ohio. I have been involved in drama and theatre my entire life. As I continue getting my college education I have sat back and evaluated my life. I am currently studies American Sign Language Interpreting and have fallen in love with the Deaf Culture. What better way to pursue both dreams of mine then try out for a show that combined both of my passions.
I have been involved in mostly musical theatre but have always preferred acting. When I was 13 I auditioned for a short Indi film being produced by a director who was originally from Portsmouth,Ohio. After auditioning I was called by the director directly. He told me that I was very talented and he didn’t want me to give up. Unfortunately I wasn’t given the role because I was to young. The direct was very encouraging and I never gave up. I don’t expect to become and super star but if I was given the chance to audition for a role you wouldn’t be disappointed. I would love to give more information about myself upon request.

Acting has always been a hobby of mine, but now I am ready for it to become my life. I have been taking classes and lessons for acting all my life and I really love to challenge myself. I like seeing people get surprised and shocked at what I can do. It’s always been something that made me happy to do. When people tell me that I did great or give me a compliment I am so excited.w hen they give me negative response, I don’t get down. When I get negative response I just ask them what could I do better and I take that in consideration. The negative responses make me a better actress and I embrace them. Just give me one chance and I promise I will not let you down.

  44. Matthew Terpening

Hi, My name is Matthew Terpening. I’m 25 years old, and am a major in American Sign language with a background of acting in my high school/college Drama clubs. Both of these are a passion for me, and I feel that I would be a great fit for this show. Feel free to contact me for additional information.

  45. Maren Kitogo

    Hi there!
My name is Maren Kitogo. I am 12 years old about to be 13 on the 25th of February. I am a Tanzanian native and I moved to the Houston, TX with my mom and dad and my 2 older siblings. I am the youngest of 3 kids and “the talented one”, says my mom.
I sing, dance, act, I have a little background with ASL and very athletic. I was in drama my 6th grade and played one of the main munchkin in my old school’s production of “The Wizard of Oz”. I can dance freestyle Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Pop. I play Volleyball, Basketball and a little bit of Soccer as well.
I love “Switched at Birth”. I watch it all the time. My sister took Sign Language when she was in High School and it inspired me to learn how to sign. I know how to sign common signs and I learn from my sister and watching the show of course. I encouraged my best friend to watch the show and everyday at lunch, we’d never talk, only sign. Teachers, some students, and the administrators think that it’s really cool, but some people just think it’s weird. I always participated in ‘Deaf Day’ at my sister’s high school. I would walk around school only signing or writing and will not talk whatsoever.
I think I would be a really good candidate for any role on the show because not only am I a fast learner, I also have a background with sign language and it wouldn’t hurt to learn a couple of more signs and I’ve always dreamt of meeting Katie and Vanessa.
Thank you for your time and have a nice day.
    Sincerely,
    Maren D. Kitogo
    (Maren Dee for short)

Hello, All. My name is Deyja. I’m 16 years old and my dream is to act, sing, and model. I want this so bad. Growing up, and still to this day, I take on any opportunities I am given to live my dreams. When I was a little girl, I was so dramatic. Everything I did was acting. Everytime I was tv, I just get so envious of all the stars…I want to be up there was other them. I used to have my mom watch me while I sing and perform different scenes and songs, (some from tv, some I wrote.) I have many big dreams and I’m ready to start living them. I am a harf worker. I promise to never give less than 100%. I can assure you that if you decided to work with me, I would not make you regret it. All I want to do is entertain people all over the world. Please consider me for this. It would be an honor to work with you. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity.

  50. Alexis

Hi , my comment isn’t going to be as good as other peoples and I’m sorry if my post doesn’t sound confident but I’m not going to lie I haven’t done very much acting at all. This show thought is one of my favorites and I would really love if you can have me in mind. It would be a dream if I could start my career doing acting here on abc family. Just so you have an idea of what I look like I’m Hispanic only 4″11 , 125 pounds and I have brown wavy hair. I don’t know if it would matter but I have two piercings on my lip , of course if I need to take them out i would. So now I just have to hope someone reads this ,Thank you for your time.

  52. Logtcabin deaf fan

Is someone from the show actually reading these messages? I am just curious as a lot of kids are really putting their hearts out there. I know someone who would be perfect for this show (deaf his whole life, mainstreamed because of location, but transferred to a deaf high school halfway thru his junior yet…NO ASL when he arrived) His parents wanted him to be able to have a foot in both worlds, and allow him to experience his culture. I have trying to convince him to put his info on here….his looks would give Emmett a run for his money…personality too!!

  53. SaJorden

I have always been interested in being in a series. I have always loved having my picture taken and being in front of a camera my entire life. I have many different sides and seem to fit in with anyone and everyone. Playing soccer is what I love to do, but have had 2 ACL tears one last year and one this year, so for someone who has always been very busy to doing much of nothing this would be a great outlet for me and a new chapter in my life. I would love the opportunity to prove myself.

I am 21 years old living in the LA area.
I do not have much experience with acting excpet for a few short student films and acting classes. I want to act because I want to reach out to the audience. Cinematherapy is a type of therapy that is used to help people relate to characters in a movie/tv show. I would like to be a part of something that someone can watch and identify with. Films have this power to them that can really capture and move people. I also find acting to be something extremely fun but with hard work as well and I would like to give my acting passion a shot.

  64. Julie Ann Smith

I have an innate passion to use my talent in acting…I have used Sign Language fluently for the last 30 years- self taught, as my second language…it is a natural thing for me to use my skills where ever I am. I have 20 years of experience in the talent industry on a local basis, and a lengthy resume……However, I am ready for my platform. This would be a wonderful way to fulfill my dreams, aspirations and goals in being in a major movie…the icing on the cake. I am looked at as a role model and I am confident that I poses the necessary qualifications to make a DYNAMIC IMPACT on your operations. I am inspired by many in the movie Switched At Birth…and an inspiration to as many around me as well. God Bless – Thank you for your consideration. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Julie Ann Smith

  72. Kennedy Prochak

My name is Kennedy. I’m 15 years old. I have blonde hair, and green eyes. I’ve been into cheerleading since kindergarten. The reason I like it so much is because I love to go in front of people and perform, it quickly lead me to realize that I love to do that. I don’t get much opportunity to act but the first time I could I signed up for a play at my school, singing in the rain. I think acting is so much fun. When I was little I would put on little shows for my family and then try to give everyone a script to perform. I’ve always wanted to act and be on tv. I’m probably the least shy person out of all of my friends and family. I’ve always wanted to be the different one in my family. The special one who makes it on to do amazing things. Doing my dream job. I want to succeed. I hope I get to use this opportunity to see if I really am cut out to do my dream thing. Honestly, I just love making memories. Moments, I love the feeling of making someone laugh, or smile. I love the way it feels when you watch something on tv and you just get chills from the acting, what’s happening, all of that. It would be so amazing if I could be the one helping create all that through acting. I love this show and I also love the secret life of the American teenager. I I would just die to be on either. I really hope I get this chance. Thank you so much! (:
